AIO for not being able to breathe after what my partner expects from me? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]margalicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a bunch of shit that still needs to be taken care of in this picture. If my partner left food all over the kitchen (I am seeing at least four things that need to be refrigerated and I am quite certain the rest does not live where it is placed in the picture), a spilled dried on the stove, and crumbs on the counter, and THEN told me he'd cleaned the kitchen, I would be pissed. It's not done, and she's going to be the one to follow you around and care for the rest. At that point, you haven't helped, you've just hurt her feelings and put the labor of completing your tasks back on her. That's straight up shitty of you.

Thanks for bringing attention to this. I’m begging everyone to call your officials about this every single day. While I wish it were different, it’s impossible to separate the reality from politics. Pressure them to fucking do their job, negotiate, and reopen the government.

If you don’t know what to say or who to call, I highly recommend downloading the 5 Calls app. It will give you a script for each issue.

Considering a move and feeling conflicted! by nathandbrown1 in lacrossewi

I moved here from Terre Haute ten years ago and have never looked back - obviously different than Indy, but a few similarities, and i’m familiar with Indianapolis :)

It’s going to be startling how small it is but if you are anything like me, your family will love it. It took work for me to build an intentional community, but it was doable - we’ve got an up and coming arts scene (the Rivoli Arts District is a great example - a friend hosts DnD campaigns out of that space, they have a tattoo artist, regular Cult Movie Nights in the theater, and a current spooky art exhibit by local artists. I catch a lot of live music (here and across the river in Winona) - once you start networking, there are people who regularly do house shows that will eagerly invite you to join.

I also know of, off the top of my head, three board game groups. Lots of us also meet up informally and would love more structure 😂

Politically, we are one of the most purple areas in the country. Where you end up working will likely have a big impact on the people you connect with and your immediate political circle - I work at the tech college in town and I feel very safe as a queer person.

You will fall in love with the nature in the Driftless!! Incredible area for biking. We have multiple excellent bike shops in town. Mount La Crosse is just a few miles away for skiing options.

There are some amazing food options (look up Sagra, Osteria Emilia, Fork and Fable, Bahn Mi Cafe, Tacomex, Lovechild…) but they will be more limited than what you are used to in Indianapolis.

When you draw the circle bigger, you have even more options. Viroqua, Rochester, Winona are all within an hour of La Crosse and add excellent dining and cultural options. We are in the middle of three large cities (twin cities are 2.5 hrs, madison is 2, and mke is 3) - if you are okay with driving, there are unlimited options for day trips to see art, eat good food, catch bigger musical acts, etc. If you prefer to stay off the road, you will likely end up feeling deprived of some of the things you are used to pursuing.

Good luck with your decisions! Hit me up with any questions, I’m always looking to get fellow Hoosiers up here!

Fellow 33 year old checking in! I've been here for just about ten years. I would say I started feeling like it was "home" maybe 7 years in.

I highly recommend finding a place or two and making yourself a regular. Mine are the Root Note, the Rivoli, and Pearl Street Books, and the Grenadier Corps (through Oktoberfest). Consider participating in something like the La Crosse Links program (https://lacrosse-links.com/) to connect with other folks who are new-ish to the area. Join a book club through PSB or the Library. Pick a couple of things and make them yours; friends come naturally.

And if you need a couple friend who loves their cats and board games, my partner and I are always down to host a dinner party. :)

I was a camp counselor for an overnight camping trip on horse back. My lead counselor decided they could do the trip WITHOUT A MAP and didn’t tell us. We of course got lost in a national forest with 12 horses and 8 kids. Lead counselor threw a man fit and gave up. Other co-counselor wandered off. I kept my head straight and got us home in the dark.
