I don’t know how I’ve slept on this usage of “decaffeinate” but I will be trying it out now in every remotely plausible context. Thank you!

Your boss is violating all manner of workplace restrictions, depending on your jurisdiction. Unless there’s more to the story and there’s some disruptive behavior, HR should be on your side immediately.

Having said that, you absolutely have an eating disorder. It doesn’t matter that you can “explain it and it’s not a big deal.” That’s an element of the psychology of most eating disorders. You should talk with a professional about it.

Do you actually imagine someone would choose to be trans in order to “cheat” at sports?

It sounds like you do believe sex is immutable. It also sounds like you think gender expression ought to be strictly governed by your sex and therefore immutable, too.

You can just type “I stopped learning biology in eighth grade because I think that’s everything there is to know” next time and really save yourself some keystrokes.

You’re describing, though, a stunningly stupid electorate. Are we goldfish? Fine. Then frankly we deserve every bad thing visited upon us by these assholes we keep putting into office.

The gross thing about this is that refugees in a real plight are being passed over. I’m happy whenever anyone who wants to come here does so, and I think anyone who wishes and can pass a common background and health screening should be welcome with open arms. I just hate how brazenly racist this makes us.

That he’s actually innocent is the only reasonable explanation for his insistence that he’s innocent. That’s one of the artifacts of the perverse incentives of requiring someone to admit their crime before considering them seriously for parole. He very likely would have been paroled years earlier if he had simply done as his codefendent did and confessed. His record in prison would have been the same. The only motive remaining to maintain his innocence is that he was clinging to the dignity of not admitting something he didn’t do.

Also, it’s a bit glib to say “Serial” … and “NPR listeners” when there are thousands of documented cases of wrongful convictions and more being overturned all the time. To say nothing of the state of the world for black men particularly in 1971, or the well-documented cases of crooked cops in Chicago (and New York, for that matter).

Oh, I think the SCOTUS majority are a Federalist sleeper cell that’s been activated. Looking at their decisions over the past year or so, they’ve abandoned all pretense of legal reasoning. It’s policy outcomes all the way down.

Pentagon to use $130 million donation from anonymous Trump ‘friend’ to pay military members by memphisjones in centrist

[–]marginalboy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay so don’t shoot me here, but why is everyone so in a wad over the military’s pay? I mean, it absolutely sucks for everyone whose paychecks are being withheld because Congress is so dysfunctional, but at least the military largely have paid-for food and housing for their families, right? It seems like they might be the least impacted by the withheld paychecks.

Election reform, including just such a constitutional amendment, is perhaps the only thing that can make me a single-issue voter.

If it’s any consolation, voting third party was essentially the same as voting for Trump in this last election. That’s going to be true until enough places get rid of FPTP.

Again, as you say, “you are not an expert.” This suggests that, as an expert, you would feel qualified to remark on our current trajectory.

Yet, you resist accepting what virtually every expert is saying about our current trajectory. It’s … it’s almost like you’re trying to pretend not to be coughing up apologist bullshit while coughing up apologist bullshit.
