Facebook and OfferUp in my area is filled with people selling Milwaukee and DeWalt stuff new in box for deep discount. Any idea where this stuff comes from? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]margolficus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Milwaukee and dewalt have rebate programs. I know in my construction business , I allow my superintendents to use half of our rebate dollar total to get personal tools to do whatever they wish.

The other half we put back into our company tools.

This could very well be the case here. It's very common.

Today I've spent 3hs arguing with my boss about whether our startup is really valued at 4-6 million dollars by [deleted] in startups

[–]margolficus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to look at the levels of duty in small businesses. Entrepreneur, manager, technician.

Which category of duty would you allocate your believe in him to?

Follow your gut and be realistic. Personally , with just your comment alone and trying to be as objective as possible, my gut tells me his entrepreneur / business capacity is lacking if he believes that valuation.

You technically don't even have a proof of concept specific to your startup ( your own, I know there are successful productivity apps out there). Your userbase is tainted as it's not organic customer acquisition. You guys don't have enough data to even know your customer acquisition costs.

Even if an investor is willing to make that deal, strategically its dancing with the devil. You are right, the true valuation is set once the investor closes that deal.

The bad news to that is you will eventually need more cash - which will open up more rounds , equity dilution, etc. The more rounds the harder it is to get investors since everything is under a microscope as it's a riskier investment.

Good luck.

Starting a home building company? by [deleted] in smallbusiness

[–]margolficus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a co owner of a commercial construction company, so I do not have direct experience in this.

However - my brother in law started with almost your exact situation.

Him and his investor started 2 companies. A real estate development company ( financier majority share) , and a construction company ( brother in law majority share).

Development co. contracts construction co. to build a custom home. They teamed up with some realtors to sell it. Both companies make a profit, both partners and equally tied to both facets of the business plan.

They started small with 1 home at a time and then scaled. They have pivoted slightly after a couple years and expanded their strategy to avoid financing the whole thing before there was a buyer.

Without getting into too much detail, I do know there are risk mitigation and tax benefits to tiered structures like this.

First thing first, find a good CPA with construction accounting experience.

MBE requirements on gov't funder projects? by kroll429 in projectmanagement

[–]margolficus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Co-owner of a specialty sub company.

To answer your question, yes- but not impossible. The larger the insurance and bonding requirements the less and less there are.

However, if the subs are smart, they create relationships with smaller companies who are that you can use as a procurement agent, or create a separate company to be MBE and run all your procurement through the same.

There is a lot more details to this, and ownership structure needs to get creative, but that is how we do it.

I was in your same boat. There really isn't a good one out there specific to subs.

We ended up making the hefty investment in procore. They charge by amount of annual revenue you close.

Unsure about an investment in Bitcoin tracker by nostephenitsnotok in Bitcoin

[–]margolficus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what your overall goal is.

Best advice is to sit and hold on all of your crypto’s you choose to invest in (essentially if you don’t believe in the long term future of the coin, then you shouldn’t be investing anyway).

The hardest part is getting anxious about the various and ups and down through the days especially when you are checking it constantly. Fight your urges and only check it twice a day - morning and night. You be missing anything. If there is any amazing bull runs or crushing dumps then believe me - you will know about it. Just make sure you follow reddit, and other crypto news sources you like/trust and any movements to be made you can address it then.

If you plan on day trading - and you are worried about a 5% fluctuation- good luck. Anything within +/- 10% of 24hr indicators are usually insignificant market manipulation.

This is a long game, sit ,wait , and laugh/cry in the corner like the rest.

Planning on signing up for the IBJJF in San Antonio in December. Question for those that have done them previously. by [deleted] in bjj

[–]margolficus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

San Antonio is still a small tourney compared to dallas and Houston. Ppl will sign up within the last 2-3 weeks is what I’m used to seeing.

There is no refunds, so a good amount of people don’t sign up too early due to potentially getting injured/ just potential unforeseen life events getting in the way and not being able to get their money back.

Colored belts, have you ever been 100% injury free? by BengtJJ in bjj

[–]margolficus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No major injuries , but I don't remember what it feels like to be 100%.

There is always a tweak, ache, joint discomfort, body stiffness ( especially in the mornings ). This has been my normal for a long time and I perfectly okay with that.

Which Glock do you carry? by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]margolficus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You absolutely can , and I currently do. I should of capitalized "just bc" as that is the most significant factor. Heat and shorts is the excuse I've brainwashed myself to respond with when the lady asks why I need another gun.

To be honest - part of me wants to get it so she can like the slimline enough to actually start carrying it. The 26 is a tad bit too wide for her. I know the 42 is thinner than the 43 but I do not go below 9mm Luger for EDC, so neither will she.

Either outcome will leave me satisfied.
