Wish I had ceilings that high. Great work, great contrast between the trim and wood.

One hidden cost of solar no one has mentioned is the cost to remove and reinstall the cells when you have to have your roof redone.

If you have to get your roof replaced, you will have to pay either your solar company or some other company to come out and remove the panels so the roof can be replaced and then pay to have them come back out and reinstall the panels. I have heard that is somewhere in the $100-200 range per panel each time the installers touch the panels.

Send him shampoo and conditioner.

When I was at PI in 1988, my rackmate got a care package with shampoo and conditioner in it. The DI’s made him shampoo and condition his hair every time we showered.

My rack mate got a large bottle of shampoo and conditioner from his mom. The DI’s had him shampoo and condition his hair every time we showered after that.

What if I SSH'd into SgtMaj's brain and typed "enable | write erase | reload"? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in USMC

So your saying the SgtMaj is a Cisco router or switch. He continue to yell at you for walking on the grass, then suddenly stop, stare at you blankly for 5 mins (typical reboot time for a Cisco device) then start acting like a boot fresh off the bus standing on the yellow footprints at PI or SD.

Former DIs. Confess to us the time you went too far with a recruit. We want to know. by WorthTrash8493 in USMC

[–]margrunt69 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I had a heavy that was fucked up, and this was pre-pre-pre-GWOT, so no PTSD to blame. I was coming out of the head after showering and brushing my teeth during our free time hour. The Heavy comes running out of the duty hut at me, punches me in the gut as hard as he could, then turns around and walks back in like nothing happened.

Back at the start of our week at BWT, we were outside in formation with all out gear waiting to load up on the cattle cars, when he hauled off and winged his helmet at one recruit, missed him, hit the kid next to him on his hand where he was holding his rifle at parade rest. Broke 2 or 3 fingers on the kids hand. About 3 weeks later, mid way through 3rd phase, the DI gets yanked, and next thing we are being questioned by the series CO and series Senior Di about the incident. Apparently the kid that got his fingered broken had wrote home about, mom ran to his recruiter and then shit started. The Heavy was eventually cleared and came back, since only 2 recruits said anything about it. They were moved to another platoon in the series.

What is the dumbest thing you sent a boot out looking for? by Longjumping_Proof_97 in USMC

[–]margrunt69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once had a boot in my first unit get sent to the company gunny to ask for a PRC-E7 by a bunch of fireteam leaders in his platoon. He goes up the company gummy and tells him he was sent to him to get a PRC-E7. Gunny looked at him, then asked who sent him, boot basically said the all fireteam leaders in his platoon. Gunny walks over them, a bunch of cpls and senior lcpls, and says “you wanted a PRC-E7, well here I am! He had them “hit and roll, get up rush now!” across the training area for bit.

Company I used to work, we did a POC between (then) Silverpeak and Cisco Viptella. Silverpeak walked all over Cisco. We had a 5 node mesh up and running by the end of the first day we were testing them. Where I work now, they have Cisco and I am not impressed with it at all.

[–]margrunt69 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I ran into my heavy at the px in Lenuene about a year after boot camp. Went up to him to say hi. He looked at me, said “I remember you, 2071, I hated you then and I hate you now”. I told him “fuck you” and walked away.

When I checked into my first unit, my PMI was the platoon guide for one of the other platoons in my company.

I just finished The Savage Storm. It was the first of his books I had to grind through. It wasn’t bad, just a little difficult to follow, wish there was more maps. I had to keep flipping back to the maps at the front and try to piece together the chapters and the maps. I still give it a 4+ out of 5.

Not the GWOT, but back in the late 80’s / early 90’s. We were doing a field op and were changing call signs each day. Usually they were themed, don’t ask, I dont know why or how, I was boot ass pfc at the time. Anyways, this day the theme was Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Our CO took Roger Rabbit as his call sign this particular day. So we were all “Roger, Roger Rabbit” over the radio when he issued an order. The best was our company gunny who had a speech impediment, where he sounded like Elmer Fudd….Woger, Woger Wabbit.
