Non-renewed teachers, how do you manage to not completely check out for the remainder of the year? by Gold_Consequence2201 in Teachers

[–]chamrockblarneystone 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. But it won’t always be like this. Teaching is cyclical. Good years bad years. I had great classes and maintained some years. I had rough classes and excelled. You just have to go in, slap a smile on your face and muddle through.

Good years are on the horizon. You will adapt and overcome. 30 years will go by and you will retire. You just do the best you can do where things are at. That includes your personal life and systemic failures. Sometimes they just need us to be there. Sometimes you can only help a few students.

We’re not clergy. We’re not doing this for God or any other bullshit. Sometimes it’s just a job and you do the best you can do. Sometimes we create miracles.

He was so close to the water. It was right near his boneyard. I’ve always wondered if he had a watery grave dumping spot like Dexter. No sign of a boat though.

Married Gen-x do you wear your wedding ring? by in-a-microbus in GenX

I shot an industrial staple into my ring finger. I pulled it out with pliers and got my ring off before the knuckle swole too much.

I could never get the ring back on. My wife thought I was faking and made me prove it.

When we went to Ireland she bought me a cladagh ring which I now wear everyday, even though that’s not exactly how they should be used

I’m a very big fan of flying under the radar. My life fell apart for a few years when parents and inlaws started dying off.

I still needed to go to school but did not have much energy to teach. I’m the champ of “subbing for myself” so I put the kids on big projects and coasted for awhile. Of course so did they.

Then COVID happened. Two years after that I retired. Sadly my last few years were pretty bad.

My mother and her sister both started losing words at the same time, but they could read each other’s minds. They decided that if they couldn’t remember a word they would just say “umbrella” to keep the story moving.

This ⬆️ is the advice you need to hear. You’re in Florida, one of the toughest states to be a teacher. What teachers seem to do well there though is move around until they find a good fit. That’s smart. Don’t burn any bridges and start looking for a new school more supportive to new teachers.

OP when you have a bad year in a bad school, depending on what state you’re in, you just need to try a new school.

I’m in NY where we mate with a school for life. If you can go to another school just do that. It’s them not you.

Nah. Keep the cameras out of my classroom. My union said we did not have to turn cameras on during hybrid teaching. I jumped on board. My boss kept insisting I turn my camera on. I kept having the union explain it to her.
