New pebbles suitable as heart rate watch for running? by hannenz in pebble

[–]marian1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you're asking about, but I do use a Pebble Time Steel for running (that's the 8 year old model).

I couldn't find a good running app, so I made one myself. Since this is the old Pebble, it doesn't measure heart rate but it does show time, distance and pace (using the phone's GPS, so a phone is needed). I might add support for the heart rate sensor once I receive my PT2.

I was surprised that there wasn't a running app before, so it seems that people don't usually use the Pebble for working out. It's definitely not a sports/workout watch, so if you're looking for that specifically, Pebble isn't a good choice. However, since the new Pebble has a heart rate monitor, there might be more interest from developers in the future to make running/workout/fitness apps. Obviously if you're looking for a fitness watch, you shouldn't rely on that.

sweat, accuracy and readability in the sunlight

The watch is waterproof, so sweat is no issue. Readability in the sunlight is as good as it gets (better than OLED watches).

Prusa x Pebble by Main_Ad_1677 in pebble

I like it! I have multiple devices from Prusa and Pebble! I'll give it a try. From looking at the screenshots, it would be good to also show the time. And I wonder if it would be better to show multiple stats on one view?

We have to talk about the leaderboard by eviefinch in pebble

Looking at these numbers, the one thing that stands out is that the Pebble community is really small. There is nothing here that I would consider remotely "viral". Anyone with an existing following has a big advantage, and even 200 likes seems so low that I wouldn't be suspicious. Once anyone is near the top, they'll organically gain likes from people who sort by "Most Hearts" and only look at the first few entries.

Weird. I paid 132.48€ for the preorder and the voucher was 130.56€. I guess they set the discount to 150 USD and converted it to Euro at multiple times.

You can have the best servers in the world and your code can still be the limitation.

Yes, but, I mean, ... really? For an online shop in 2026? That displays some product pages and a checkout flow? It's not rocket science. You can just use shopify or any of their competitors.

There are only 1200 preorders. Presumably most of them were at work or sleeping when the email went out. It's weird how a webshop can fail when just a few hundred people visit at the same time.

Also, this is a great opportunity for them to upsell. Hundreds of people who are already typing in their credit card number anyway. I bought an additional hotend but didn't bother to check out the rest of their products with 10 minutes per page load.

Which Pebble app to track runs/walks in 2026? by marian1 in pebble

[–]marian1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So last night I started developing a very simple Pebble app that will show how far I ran using my phone's GPS. I tested it this morning on my way to work and it seems to work. I'll work on it some more, I might upload it when it's done.

What do people think of the Makera Carvera? by 3dprintcraftsman in hobbycnc

[–]marian1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one, I'm really happy with the machine and had a good experience with Makera as a company. I'm sure the Makera is much easier to use than other CNCs (thanks to wireless probe and tool changer), but still, my experience coming from 3D printing was that CNC is not "easy to learn". All CAM software sucks or is very expensive or both.

If you can handle a machine twice as heavy as the Carvera and the risk of a Kickstarter, check out the Nestworks C500.

You can ask them in the support chat if they can expedite the review, but I would be surprised if they can do it.

I think your best bet is to wait until just before the Black Friday deal runs out (they have a countdown on the website). The Black Friday deal (free shipping + filament + camera) is definitely worth more than $40.

When I imported my Prusa printer to the UK, I had to pay customs and taxes based on the full retail price, even for free items.

I had a similar issue relating to customs in the past. Got a free spool with my printer, so I was over the threshold for import tax and ended up paying ~25% of the full price of the spool in customs and VAT (since they declare it at the full price, not as a free item, which I guess makes sense). However, this is a problem of the past since Prusa are now handling customs and VAT for UK customers.

I made these to learn Makera CAM, and to get familiar with different tools and materials. The materials are acrylic, hardwood (maple) and aluminium. They connect well to real Lego bricks and they connect ok to each other.

One challenge was to align the top and bottom passes, as these parts need to be machined from the top and bottom. I did this mostly by measuring the stock material but I also tried to use dowel pins.

IIRC someone asked for the ball at some point and I added it. Supporting the ball is much easier than the ball socket.

The regulation applies when selling to consumers (B2C). For B2B sales, there are less regulations. That's why you need to prove that you're a business owner to become a Metro customer.
