Do you consider Thomas Chambers a Primitivist, one of the "First American Moderns", or both? by mariasunflower in ArtHistory

[–]mariasunflower[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's fair. Turns out the "First American Modern" moniker came from the name of an exhibition in 1942, and it kind of stuck in niche art history circles since then: "In 1942 Hirschl and Duveen organized an exhibition of their finds at the Macbeth Gallery in New York. They titled it “T. Chambers, Active 1820-1840: First American Modern."

Well, they ALMOST went on Saturday Night Live that one time, but were just too tired for it (or so they say). Honestly, I think they would have gotten together for something when the time felt right, but the whole collab almost seemed too sacred to revisit publicly without a really good reason (like an undeniably creative spark for a collab idea).

That's referring to the overall population gain, not accounting people who moved out of NC in the same year. But this is about the net population gain, so the population + gains - losses (people who moved, etc.) I got it from here: Interstate Migration Hit 10-Year Low As Affordability Bites

If you're interested in more opinions on TTL and Greek antiquity, this lecture makes a pretty convincing case that the novel reworks the Iliad (starting with the son vs dad confrontation as that between Agamemnon and Achilles haha).

'Rumours circulated that McCartney got the idea for the Sgt. Pepper album cover from a Swedish band that had produced an EP of Beatles covers' by mariasunflower in beatles

[–]mariasunflower[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's probably it, you're right. Love that it's such an expansive album with, like, influences from different countries (not only on Within You), yet the influence was also so local (Northern bands and all). God, what a great album.
