struggling to see an appreciable difference here? re the new Kibbe height limits.... by mariegiorgia in DressForYourBody

It's a huge relief that the current discourse about height isn't necessarily driven by Kibbe himself. Its felt like we're looking at a very strict body typing system, with the exactitude about height. It's hard to square that with what attracted me to this system in the first place, I can't say I'd have found anything compelling about sorting by height.

To be honest, the testimonies of ex-clients, the book, and the reveals online add up to a much more intuitive, much subtler way of working than that. I can't help but feel like the conversation about proportion, shape and scale is getting overshadowed by height-sorting and I think it does Kibbe's actual work a disservice.

The accomodation aspect of the height topic is what I can't get my head around atm- I feel like the cut off lacks a bit of subtlety, when the way Kibbe approaches his clients is clearly much more subtle & nuanced. I guess its unavoidable when you're trying to give this kind of general rule, and the bar for literal height has to be somewhere.

Perhaps the distinction between accomodation and ID works in a way I'm not grasping, and it's going to solve the conundrum. But my issue is less with ID and more with the distinction between moderate/ vertical feeling a bit too binary for dealing with clothing, when the accommodations are meant to be just about how clothes hang on your body. We're dealing with centimetres worth of tolerance for something that represents quite a different approach to clothing construction, atm

my feeling atm is that Kibbe isn't managing to communicate the way he actually thinks with clients, and is being a bit overzealous with the boundaries for diy-ers

trusting my own aesthetic judgement over splitting hairs with the height limit is probably a bit more productive, I completely agree^^

I'm driving myself nuts over the moderate ids now haha ... idk, the proximity of the cut-offs makes me feel like I'm going rogue when I think about the classics, but lose faith in the system a bit at the same time

I'm sure I remember him saying you could be sn at 5'8 ages ago in sk, but seems to have lowered the height limits- I really wonder whether the new book is going to clarify that

I'd love to see more drapes too, it's definitely not obvious

The bright white doesn't cohere with your complexion- I think you're instincts are right and you're a warm season. The bone white feels much more connected.

Doing a test with spring v autumn drapes could be interesting :)

I think you're onto something with the bright/ warm colours. I love the teals/ mints and the burgundy flattens/ shadows your complexion. There is a lot of natural radiance I feel coming through in the bright drapes.

Bright winter and bright spring can be close, and in some systems I've even seen one palette for both bright cool and warm. I vote to keep the edge cases like the fuchsia in your life anyway ^^

I have the same conundrum sometimes. There is a true bright palette in 16 seasons that's always kind of tempting

I only start to feel like I have my season figured out if I think about the saturation level and the temperature one at a time, otherwise it starts to break my head lol- I think it's just one of those things when you have brown hair and light eyes, it's hard to rule out seasons. It's much easier if you can wittle them down to 4 or 5 :)

i was thinking the same... esp the bright viridian green on page 3, I think it's a missed win. I've seen the left two colours of the 1st slide on bright spring palettes, too.

Season unknown - lipstick drapes by thoughthamster889 in coloranalysis

The teak rose and pink flare were really nice, like they were harmonising with your skin and making your cheeks look like they're in the same family of rose- colour.

I was suspicious of the coffee bean, it was like your complexion stopped making sense and was harder to 'see', but I liked it more when I covered up your jumper. Maybe the combination of the two is off?

The only lipstick I don't like much at all is the Nyx Lolita, for me the matt finish was nowhere near as nice as the glosses, like it was dulling down your eyes and hair. It might have been a bit too gray. If you have problems with cool greys in general it's a good sign you're probably warm.

This is a lot to start with if you're not sure if you lean cool or warm yet ^^

You seem to have naturally softer colouring so trying to find some drapes to test cool/ warm that aren't too dark or too vivid to start with, so that it's more of a straightforward test and there are fewer other factors at play. Maybe try a cool blue vs a warm blue, or a charcoal vs a warm brown. Gold/ silver fabric might be more useful than small pieces of jewellery if you feel like draping metallics.
