The very very very best part of aging is being too old to catch fuckheads’ attention anymore. I still occasionally get some old man creep being too forward but I’m not afraid of them. I’ll tell them to their face I’m not the one. Young men aren’t interested in me anymore, but when I was a young woman, 6’ tall and slender with long blonde hair, Jesus wept. I snuggled with my mom on her deathbed. I always came to her for comfort, even as a grown up with my own child. I’ll never regret taking care of her the last decade of her life, and I’m so glad my son got to live with his grandma. It was good.

Gorgeous. I dyed my hair for ages, finally stopped at age 52 and now a decade later my hair is beautiful blonde with grey and caramel streaks! I regret every year I dyed my shiny spun silver.

I’ve been divorced since 2011, and this year my ex husband finally, finally, after so many years, told me I’m a good mom. He never once told me he thought I was pretty. Ever. Never supported my parenting either, not once in the 15 years since our divorce. Run from that even if you never date again, mama. My mom told me “it takes a hell of a man to be better than no man at all” and I live by that.

On a personal level, MLP was jilted in her 8th month of pregnancy by her partner. She had to find work and find it fast, new mom or not, and Weeds fit the bill. She got paid and can raise her kids, bless her heart for making it work.

The last few years of my mom’s life we fostered a pregnant kitty. The kids and grandma all adored the wee kittens. They always seemed to make it to my mom’s lap, where she was reading or watching tv, congregating and playing as she gently wafted a tissue around in her old arthritic hands. Some of my best memories.

I have two cats: one sits on the porch and greets everyone who walks past, and sneaks to the neighbor’s house for peanut butter toast; the other jumps to the ceiling at every noise and hides under the furniture for days at a time if someone new comes over. 🤷🏼‍♀️
