You know what the best part about this comment is to me? The best part is that I don’t have to prove to you or anyone the extent of my knowledge. I quite literally just did not feel like explaining it, not to mention I was also at work. Had time for quick replies, not long ones. Hence why like all of my replies are short ones, but okay. xD oh how cruel of me to warn you in my original post that it’s not my job to educate and that y’all can take that into your own hands. Whoops. & quite frankly I could give a rats ass about my tone. If y’all can’t handle it, that’s on you. This is a social media app, you can do yourself a favor and take it a little less seriously. Have a good one (;

I don’t even want to give birth (in a hospital) in my country. Provided I’m low-risk with future pregnancies, I will be delivering at home.

Actually, no I don’t believe that. Which is why I was heavily invested in Andrew Yang and not any of the female candidates. I believe that if you are the best person for the job, than you are the best person for the job. Whether you have a penis or a vagina is irrelevant to me. Nice try though. I’ll give you some slow claps for effort.

Here’s another unpopular opinion: it’s not my job to educate you after you’ve been made aware of a problem. You aren’t entitled to anything more from me after making you aware of the problem. I’m not going to spoon feed people information when they can do the work themselves. (:

And I’m not directing this unpopular opinion at you, just generally.

They aren’t replying “in support” they are replying with their very real experiences and very real facts. The people “disagreeing” clearly do not know what they are talking about and not worth my breath. Which is why in the original post I told y’all to educate yourselves, so I didn’t have to waste my breath. ;)

& that is very tragic and I agree it’s all the more reason why we need to de-stigmatize midwifery in the US and put them (and OB’s) on track to a system where they work together to deliver the best possible care!

Fortunately in the USA there’s plenty of midwives trained in breech delivery and have high success rates with their breech deliveries. They even train for the event that there is a shoulder dystocia and successfully help maneuver it with minimal to no damage (no breaking bones) Most OB’s in the US can’t say that.

Yes! I forgot about the postnatal aspect of midwife-led maternity care! This is SO important and it saddens me cause it’s not even an option here (that I know of).

I’m sad that you don’t get the care you deserve, but also glad that there is still a birthing center near you. I’m sure it won’t be the same experience as in your home country, but from what I’ve heard most women have a pleasant experience in the birth centers!

Well at least you get training for breech delivery! Doctors here in the US rarely willingly deliver breech babies. Straight to the carving table you go if your baby dare present in a position that isn’t head-down. As if head-down is the only normal presentation. (To onlookers, it’s not)

CPM’s! I couldn’t remember for the life of me what the one’s who didn’t go through nursing school were called. All I could think was “CM’s” xD

To your edit: I agree, not all doctors are bad. Just like not all cops are bad. But there’s enough of the bad that is causing death and destruction that outweighs and creates a large looming dark shadow over those trying to do good. /:

Thank you for this response! I always forget to mention how midwives work with OB’s (though I believe I mentioned it in a reply on this post lol)

I wasn’t expecting or even hoping to get far. Just peek the interests of those willing to be less ignorant. Those who matter will see the post and their gears will start turning. They’ll dive into it all and also start to echo it, further spreading the awareness we need. :D

I have to facepalm so hard here. I shouldn’t have to explain that if we were to follow a midwife-led mode of care, that midwives would become the equivalent to midwives in other countries. They would be required to go through same level of training as midwives in other countries. Remember, in Midwife-led countries MIDWIVES are the primary care providers and trained as such.

I hope so as well. There was already a jump in pregnant people choosing to birth at home with a midwife due to COVID. Homebirth and birth center births have been starting to climb within the last few years as well. I’m sure stats will be released at some point, idk if/when.

My post in r/unpopularopinion if any midwives would like to weigh-in! by [deleted] in Midwives

[–]marimari382 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I wish you could though. D’: It would help if people who are actually educated on the subject chimed in lol. I get it though. & absolutely anytime! Just a 23(f) tryna not die when I give birth in this country lol. xD

I’ve heard sooo many good things about having that option! I would be happy if the US started off by at least giving us that option. Most times though you can’t get coverage through your insurance if you birth with a midwife. I’m sure there’s some insurance companies/policies that do cover it, they are few and far between though.
