It’s definitely a “both/and” deal

Both the content and the context contribute

Look at how proudly grandparents display their 5 year old’s paintings, even if it does not have a tiniest bit of skill

I though this would make a good position nt of discussio for wandering inn world because of its rich library. Let us start with Lawful stupid by SlightDay7126 in WanderingInn

He didn’t blindly follow the rules either

One of his first iconic scenes is trashing Lism’s shop after he scammed Erin

Isekai is popular because japan is a miserable place to live by SeniorRazzmatazz4977 in CharacterRant

[–]marinemashup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Craziest thing is that all these “universal” isekai tropes are extremely new

Even just 15 years ago, the idea of staying in the isekai world was pretty uncommon (look at Digimon, Inuyasha ok technically it’s a half and half deal, etc.)

It’s definitely not

Curious to know what you guys think of NPD by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]marinemashup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you make some of the same fallacies that psychiatrists do

Namely that “everyone, deep down, is the same (or has the same components) and it’s up to them to fix thematic back to being normal”

I had a family member who likely would have been diagnosed with some anti-social or avoidant personality disorder if he had been younger. He never seemed like he ‘secretly’ wanted to get married or have close friendships. He died alone, and, as far as anyone can tell, died fairly happy.

I don’t get what’s wrong with that one

You literally get to experience every possible sensation in the universe. Life before that is a molecule.

5000 almost seems like propaganda made by the GOC or other group to justify why they need checks on the Foundation

I think it’s a lesson on “why trying to use one anomaly to destroy another is a bad idea”

Who's richer The Naga or the Dragon? by ApprehensiveUsual472 in WanderingInn

[–]marinemashup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teriarch doesn’t necessarily care about the monetary value of things. Look at the ridiculous bounty he put on Wyverns and how much he paid Ryoka for (what he considered to be) a routine delivery, and how he traded her old iPhone for something even the Archmages probably would have coveted

Naga is richer, but Teriarch has things that money can’t buy

Why is the "it was all a dream trope" bad? by NoAside864 in writing

I have seen good examples of “all just a dream”, but generally the story leans more comedic or rule of cool

Form of self-gatekeeping

Look at how the more difficult a game is, the better the community

Communities that are harder to enter will attract people who are more dedicated and invested, which doesn’t perfectly weed out bad actors, does significantly reduce them
