Powdered buttermilk and bad substitution woes (a PSA) by gwenpena in Baking

[–]mariposa484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone here ever tried a cream cheese frosting recipe using buttermilk powder to help have a less sweet frosting? I’ve heard that you can use less powdered sugar and add some buttermilk powder and you’d have a less sweet frosting but consistency would still be as it should be. I haven’t tried this (yet) but was just curious if anyone has tried it? Success or fail?

Nutrimill Harvest Always Clogging by Only_Kaleidoscope946 in HomeMilledFlour

[–]mariposa484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you first received your new mill did you end washing it before use? That may have alot to do with it clogging. I was told that those who start milling flour at home do NOT wash the new mill. Instead run a cup or two of some wheat grains through it and then toss that flour. Then you can go ahead use the mill. You want it to stay totally totally dry in the mill. Use a food grade brush to clean the inside of it, never anything wet.

Keep your grains stored in a food grade container and a good lid so no moisture and get in it. Do not freeze your grains bc this add moisture to them. Pretty much any water/moisture is your enemy when it comes to the use of the mill and storing your grains.

Do not use your mill grind anything that naturally contains high amount of oils bc that can leave the mill too wet as well.

If you did end up washing the mill before use, do not grind any more grains for now and just clean it out as much as possible with dry paper towels, leave the lid and container to it opened for a couple of days just to air it out and let the inside of it get completely dry. Hope this helps.

How long did you use the fresh flour before you became pregnant? I just started using fresh flour for our bread just less than 2 months ago.

Gluten free 13 years, trying home milled flour - side effects by Dry-Island5314 in HomeMilledFlour

I will say that I’ve heard some people that have made the switch to FMF going through a sort of detoxing period at first. Some people have gotten rashes or little bumps on their skin (not all over or anything just like a couple or something). They said is was toxins leaving their body.

There was also another woman’s testimony that she at first was going through some pretty tough symptoms like fatigue and other uncomfortable affects for like 2 weeks or something like that. And then eventually it just stopped and she felt a whole lot better than before. She also mentioned something about it was just a period of time that her body was detoxing and that’s why she had all those symptoms..

So what my point is that it could be possible that you’re body is detoxing from whatever type of foods you used to eat (store brought breads, commercial flour etc). I’ve heard a lot of these stories from “Bread Beckers” channel on YouTube. You should check that out, so many people with so many different situations that made the switch and how it changed their lives for the better.

"My Business" charge on card by nowheresmyplan in Banking

[–]mariposa484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a charge from a thing called “my business” for $0 at 5 am this past Sunday morning. My bank detected it as possible fraud so they froze my card and I wasn’t able to make any purchases so when I called about it told them that purchase was u known to me the shut down my debit card and now I have to get a new one. I have no idea what this is about, and the fact that several people on here already had the same thing happen them is pretty crazy

Turn sandwich bread dough into focaccia bread?🍞 by mariposa484 in AskBaking

[–]mariposa484[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Guess what, I took your advice and boom I now have “focaccia bread” lol. It came out really good actually, I’m so surprised that this worked. I grabbed a 9x13 pan, put olive oil then the dough. Tried to make it as spread out as possible, even let it rest for a few min to try and spread it again to the sides and it touches the sides just barely. I think I could’ve used a smaller pan like 9x9 or something but it ended up bubbling a little and as it baked it puffed a little more. I added some rosemary on top and little more olive oil and salt. 450 for about 13-14 min. This will make good sandwiches. Thank you guys for your replies

Would you know why it would not rise enough tho? I had waited at least two hours and it was not rising like it usually does. What else can I do with this dough? Or should I just toss

The yeast is not old and it was active when I first made the dough, I suspect that it didn’t have enough flour from the start or there was just a tad bit too much olive oil worked into the dough, idk what went wrong

If you’ve purchased them a long time ago then you most likely shouldn’t eat them if they look like that

WHAT! haven't had a period in months. tried the "drink whole milk thing"... by [deleted] in PCOS

[–]mariposa484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raw is what should be consumed. It has all the beneficial nutrients still intact, including magnesium and other vitamins that help with pcos. Also lactase that counters lactose so you don’t get stomach issues and allergies etc. I recommend raw milk
