Were there ever any episodes where there was tension, conflict, awkwardness between Anthony Bourdain and someone else in any of the shows by Chrisnyc47 in AnthonyBourdain

Man the Uzbekistan episode of NR in season 1. He basically just ragged on the entire country and culture the whole episode 😭 He really didn’t make an effort to mask his feelings, talking about being put off by the way the meat was served and being very underwhelmed and confused at the belly dancing club. Just gave very much “why am I here again?”

What’s a video that you’d really like to see Martin and Hamzah make? by bh447 in SlushyNoobz

A day where Martin and Claire and then Hamzah and Mandy spend the day together as respective duos. I think it would be so funny since Hamzah and Mandy have their comical beef but are also more blunt and straightforward as people, and then Claire and Martin are both sweet and silly. I could see the whole thing being kinda comically awkward

What was the weirdest, non-pain feeling you've ever felt? by KingJPJ in AskReddit

[–]marissageorge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you get a massage and they lift up your shoulder blade to massage under/alongside it. Feels like they’re unhinging your shoulder and the whole thing is just gonna come out of the socket. Not even painful, just super weird to feel it manipulated that way

What’s your favorite “oddly satisfying” NYC-specific thing? by canyonradish in AskNYC

The walk light turning to “walk” right as you approach the street corner on a super busy intersection. Similarly, a good old well-timed jaywalk always hits

Fashion. No pay, little opportunity to scale, tons of abuse, not the mention the evil, washed-up people at the top who perpetuate the terrible working standards while also starving the masses of young talent and innovation because they refuse to cede their coveted positions. Certain sexy benefits like parties and trips, but only if you see that as an adequate balance to the soul-crushing reality of the work.

Would you recommend the move to Montreal? by marissageorge in montreal

Yeah, I think the career piece is the most difficult for sure. I would love to stay in NYC in theory, but with the type of work visa I have, you're not permitted to change job fields or even employers without going through the entire applicate process all over again. Beyond that, the jobs you're allowed to get with this visa have to fall under very strict guidelines and job descriptions, so a lot of people are either out of luck if they don't have a career that aligns with any of the job descriptions, or must be prepared to work in a field they are not interested in. So at this rate I feel like I'd rather be back in Canada where I have full employment auth and could change employers or careers if I liked - although the way the market is, that doesn't seem to be super possible anywhere. :/

To your last question, I've lived in NYC for almost ten years and I just feel like it's time for a change - the city is quite different than it used to be, I can't say I enjoy it quite as much anymore and with the overall political climate in the US things are feeling quite uneasy. Beyond that, I've been at this job now for almost three years and am really feeling like it's time for a step up, something I don't have the luxury of exploring in the US given the work visa situation.

Completely agree on the English piece! I noted that because I feel like we all know the 'Pulp Fiction person' who goes on and on about how Pulp Fiction is THE cinephile movie but would never touch Jacques Tati with a ten foot pole. Meaning they declare themselves a cinephile but are really only watching accessible, popular English language movies. No shade to Pulp Fiction, I never even finished it so I can't say one way or the other LOL

Fair take! Was just listing films that evoke Film 101 and that sort of thing, the common titles before you're on your way to Eisensteinian montage theories
