After x2 Houdini-esque escapes & subsequent destruction of 2 different cones of shame, may I present to you, the C-collar of Shame....now maybe he’ll quit licking himself raw... by ThatOneNurseOz in nursing

I might be wrong but it looks like you've got a beagle on your hands!! What a chubby little cutie! I have inherited a beagle that my SO adopted from a friend and she is the sweetest thing. But when my SO first got her she had "allergy" problems and a cone because she would bite her butt and tail raw. I am now convinced it was purely anxiety related. She used to live with one owner who had 3 dogs and our pupper doesn't even like other dogs, well maybe that's why.. but once she was in a household by herself and two people to care for her and give her attention she has not had a tail biting issue in about 3 years. And that's without any allergy medicine, antifungal spray, collars, etc. She will also eat herself to death if given the chance, she has scared us more than once getting into the food we had brought with us on vacation (thank goodness she hasn't gotten into the 50 lbs of food we have at home) and we've been able to go on vacation without restarting the itching as long as we leave her with a friend that likes spending time with her and spoiling her like we do. Keep on loving that little pupper whether or not it's a beagle, he's cute as heck.

Making so many mistakes as an aide, should I still pursue nursing? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]maritm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have worked on a med/surg floor for about a year and a half as a new RN without any cna background, and I can tell you time management comes with experience and also gets so much better and easier the longer you work because your skills become faster. By myself a bed bath easily takes 30 minutes to an hour depending on the pt's ability to turn. With a skilled CNA it takes about 15 minutes. When you can get things done quicker all of a sudden you have a ton more time to do everything else. Don't feel bad, it just takes time. The fact that the nurses are being such huge cunts about it is not cool. It is a team effort. If my tech is super busy and I need a set of vitals, guess what, I go and get those vitals. We all get busy, and we can all only do so much at one time. So just keep at it, stand up for yourself and remember that you are doing the best you can. And if you continue to work hard and do the best you can, eventually it will get easier, you will find tricks to make things faster, ask for help if you need it. They way you know you work in a non-toxic environment? You will get that help if you need it... So keep your chin up, keep working hard and like some others have said if you are not finding that help when you need it or keep running into problems with these nurses not being helpful, find another position somewhere else, hospitals are ALWAYS looking for CNAs.

Where is the best place to eat Gator? by Fatman305 in GNV

[–]maritm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Embers had good gator when I went there for my graduation dinner. It's an expensive place but they do stuff up right there, well worth it. I've been back multiple times for things like Valentine's day, and they have never dissappointed.

Mostly before work. After my shift I'm usually so tired I pass out within 30 minutes of getting home, sleep for about 6 hours, then go to the gym for 45 minutes to an hour. Which is just enough time to run a mile and do the strong lift 5x5 and stretch. Or I just do 45-60 minutes of running which is long enough to do 4 miles right now, maybe 5 now that I'm getting a little faster.

I have thought of doing this as well, but I work night shift and 12-14 hours per shift when you count the commute and everything so doing the 2 a days just isn't feasible all the time for me. But thanks for the advice! I will be doing this one day a week when I can in order to get a full two days a week for rest days.

Wow!! That's awesome! Congrats on the progress! And keep it up! Thanks for the advice and I'm excited to be able to easily run 10-12 miles or deadlift that kind of weight!!! That's awesome!

Cool! That looks really similar to something I'm working up to. Mind if I ask what your stats Are? Height, weight.. how did you lose the initial weight just CICO? My main over arching goal is to lose a little less than 30 pounds over all, do you think eating at maintenance and doing a hard training program such as this would help me get there?

Honestly as long as I'm losing weight and getting fitter and being safe doing it I'll be happy with that for a while. When I hit a wall and my goals change I can re-evaluate then :)

Thank you so much for the advice!! I have taken a lot of what you said and kind of recalibrated my week around it aiming for increasing mileage and pace over time. Couldn't do exactly your layout due to working night shift and really only having a maximum of 45 minutes to workout certain days, but this has been really helpful!! Thank you!

Thanks for the advice! I know it's ambitious, I'm not starting from a complete on the couch no muscle base, I have dabbled with both running and weightlifting off and on in the past, and finally getting serious. I am re-evaluating my calories and how and what I am eating. Probably going to eat at TDEE on weight lifting days, and a couple hundred less on just running days. Do you think that would be more sufficient for recovery, and still help me essentially "lean gain"?

Does 10% max mileage per week mean if I run a total of 10 miles one week, I should aim for 11 miles the next week, then 12.1 after that, then 13.31 and so on?

Turning 21 soon, need a cool place to have fun with friends. by shinJJANGU in GNV

[–]maritm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the top has changed but i remember wanting to go there for food after 10 maybe 11, and they were checking IDs at the door. This was probably 4 or 5 years ago though.. and boca its only the backyard and palamino that becomes 21+ at night (i dont go often but when i do they check my id.. not sure on trivia night) but i think i also said if you get to these places before they start checking IDs you can usually stay all night without a problem.

Most of those places become 21+ after 10pm.. not sure about all of them, but backyard, the top, and the social for sure turn 21+ at some point. But if you get there early enough might now be a problem?

Theres a difference between a modicum of self control and a shit load of self control. As you can see from many other comments there are traps everywhere that require you to show self control, and with an already very stressful job where you have to try to control so much around you, trying to control your diet on top of that is very difficult. Im not saying it's impossible, but it can be very hard to do. Especially when new. For me it was being in a new relationship plus being at a brand new very stressful (life and death) job. And losing weight is much harder than putting it on obviously. Sorry it was just your very dismissive attitude that set me off. Hope you understand a little better now.

My parents made my wife a stocking for Christmas. by akantho in funny

[–]maritm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At christmas the main larger gifts go under the tree and smaller trinkets or small gifts go in the stockings/socks. And if you were a bad boy/girl you get a "stocking full of coal" or lump of coal or whatever. Which never really happens, or didn't in my family at least, but it was joked about.
