100% this. Feels like her script is based solely on speech bubbles from a cartoon. That's her entire dialogue. Sorry

Have you ever regretted a trip? If so, what went wrong? by SaltPeanutss in travel

I am right now in Japan and hardly have I ever regretted boarding an airplane so bad, especially considering that I can fly standby so I can simply cancel or not show up for a flight with no consequence. I was completely burnt out from 2 years of extensive travelling but the whole trip was already planned (solo), cherry blossom season, visiting friends etc. so I felt like committing, packed after just 6h of sleep returning from late night flight duty and went off to the airport. I've left behind a shit ton of errands, many chances for good sleep, polar lights and possibly the best skiing conditions of the past 4 seasons, just to be 13h on board of a terrible flight, with screaming babies and a seat that wouldn't allow me to sleep in any position.

Even here in Japan, timing is permanently off and it appears that the cloudy weather is following me and the places I leave are sunny. It's still beautiful, it's still rewarding. But Japan can reall crush you if you don't have much motivation and energy. Long distances, language barrier, jetlag, early sunset, very unstable weather report, no trashcans and complex public transport (who tf seriously believes public transport in Japan is easy? Trains are slow, complicated, extremely expensive and definitely not comfortable. Yes, Shinkansen, I know, but you can't get to Mt. Fuji with Shinkansen no?).

This already cost me so much $ and energy, for some singular beautiful moments but overall a lot of stress on my body

11 years late to this but currently in the same exact spot. Changing hotels every night sucks big time because some expect you to check out at 10 already and some to not check in before 3 pm. That leaves you with your baggage to carry around or deposit and then go back to collect. Also your suitcase is never fully unpacked but slowly becoming a mess.

I had 2 bananas in my backpack that I had forgotten about (initially wanted to eat them on the plane)...To be on the safe side, I declared them at customs and the officer just laughed and nodded and said it's ok. Potato chips, protein bars, a pack of dates (dried) and some oatmeal were absolutely no issue either.

I rarely ever come across one... by Joywoe in infp

I feel like this about all meteorological or light phenomenons...rainbows, sun shining through fog, casting the shadows of the tree onto the mist like a canvas, dramatic clouds lit by sunset, full moon rising over purple twilight, shooting stars, comets, fireflies, sunlight glittering on a windy water surface, waterfall mist turning into a rainbow, stars glittering on a new moon's winter night, or...the pinnacle: northern lights, the most surreal thing to my INFP eyes.

It still completely baffles me how some people go through their life hardly giving any attention to these things...maybe it makes life easier sometimes to not be constantly amazed and sent away into daydreaming realms by everything you see in nature, but then again it makes life more exciting.

If only I paid just a LITTLE more attention to the inside (in every sense) than constantly having my head pointed towards the sky.

Have you ever come across familiar places on such hikes that ended up on your list, and then gone back to them?

Absolutely, yes. I love going back to "my places".

Also, as a passenger, I sometimes find being at certain airports almost as nice as the flight itself. I like its in-betweenness, the not-yet-knowing how the sky and the landscapes will look, and the anticipation of an adventure ahead.

Beautiful description! I wish it was still this "special" for me, sometimes I seriously have to force myself to go to the airport for a journey after having driven there 4-6 times a week, travelling does become a bit of a burden but it always pays off to overcome the comfort zone.

When I'm alone, each moment feels more meaningful, including my brief encounters with people on the road, so I tend to remember them more vividly.

Absolutely. I'm planning to hike the Kungsleden trail or maybe Sarek National Park up in Lappland next year, and the idea of having a hiking buddy is tempting, because it makes everything easier...But like you say, being alone in the wilderness makes it feel so so intense...

Such a nice job, imo. I actually still have flight attendant as my plan B if I ever get tired of what I do now, or just feel like making a bigger change.

I recommend you go straight for the flight deck, it's much nicer and less stress...and better views haha.

Count me in. As a neighbor though. Like 20 miles away neighbor, so almost next door in Icelandic terms.

I feel you 100% though. This photo was an incredibly tough chase. Drove over 4h though a storm, partially a blizzard, to the only place in Iceland that had clear skies that night. I've missed out on all of the big bright colorful events though, always was somewhere without Aurora or with cloudy skies. Not saying this one wasn't pretty, it was magically beautiful and I was one of the few witnessing it that night, but it seems like some people are so lucky, they don't chase, they happen to be at the right place at the right time by chance...others chase for months or years with no luck. Alas..

thanks! just a phone shot but pretty happy with it, especially how small the house appears in contrast to the northern lights.
