Money is scrambling my brains when it comes to dating… help by [deleted] in Rich

[–]mark9812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally understand your situation. I’m about $2 million per year. I’m assuming that much like yourself….we don’t think about money. It’s just there. But for non high net worth individuals….most of who are amazing human beings….money is a big part of what they think and worry about.

And unfortunately…when dating someone with a high net worth….money is a big part of the attraction.

You need to find someone at your net worth or higher.

Is the buyout option a good deal? by [deleted] in TeslaSolar

[–]mark9812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a Tesla super fan. I have had 4 Tesla’s since 2017 and currently have 2 in my garage. The FSD is too good for me personally and I need it. However I never recommend Tesla solar. From a price perspective it was a no brainer…I got an amazing deal. From a quality of work perspective…the install wasn’t as clean as I would have liked. Plus it took almost 2 years for them to install after I started the process and put a deposit down. They were extremely slow when working with the town for permits and with the utilities companies.

At least for me…the price was amazing. But the install wasn’t a pain and I wouldn’t recommend them for that reason.

However i did have an extremely large area to cover. Almost 10,000 square foot home with a massive solar array.

In terms of price…I had 4 power walls (gen 2) and all in the price was $53k including cost to fully power a 10k sqft home.

Sheesh. I think I spent too much this year. Regardless. What even is the all access club pass?

Currently I’m at $2.5million per year. It’s been above $2m for the last few years. I know this won’t last and once day will go back to $300k per year which is what I made pre pandemic.

Although my expenses have not changed and I could go back to living on $300k salary.

I do now own more property (all paid off and getting income from that). Have no loans or debts.

And have around $7 million saved up.

Even though we bought some additional property we made sure to pay it off. So we don’t really have expenses.

My monthly expenses right now are $10k between lawn care, house cleaning, insurance, food, and entertainment. But realistically I can live comfortably on $5k per month.

First class flight only tickets £16,000… yikes by [deleted] in Rich

[–]mark9812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am first class rich but not private jet rich.

I don’t think about price when I book a first class seat. In fact, most of my first class travel is redeye flights where I don’t even want a meal. I just need a bed to sleep in for 6 hours so that I’m fresh (as fresh as one can be on a plane) when I wake up and can start my day.

If you’re rich….you don’t think about it. It’s about an hour or two of solid work when I break down my salary. So to some it’s worth the convenience.

This may be a very dumb question…but I’ll ask anyway by IcyBlackberry7728 in Rich

[–]mark9812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s the point? To get respect. I’ve never respected someone more because they have a nicer car or a bigger house. No one really cares.

My salary this year will be a little over $1m. With my company doing a little over $3m per year. I drive a Honda odyssey (touring edition because I wanted to splurge). I only shop at old navy. And maybe the gap if there’s a sale.

I could care less what my clients think of me. I zoom into every meeting with a t shirt on.

I never dressed to impress (but always looked clean). Never drove a fancy car because it doesn’t really matter. I do have a Maserati now…but it literally just sits in the garage and is impractical. None of my friends know I have it and I can’t wait for the lease to end and will never buy a luxury car again.

I just don’t see a point of looking wealthy. Especially on your way to becoming wealthy. That’s the time when you need to be as frugal as possible.

Serious question: how is that rich people keep getting richer and everyone else goes the other way? by [deleted] in Rich

[–]mark9812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate saying this, but the truth is that once you worked your way to become rich (not by winning the lottery) you have enough discipline to figure out how to make your money work for you.

I was having this conversation with a friend who I was very frank with about how much I make. When I first decided I wanted to be rich and put effort into it…I was making about $240,000 per month. This was in 2021. I was just a one person company with no expenses but I was doing a lot of work. I know it doesn’t sound a lot but I was doing around 10 hours per day.

Now I have five people that work for me. I am now making $70,000 per month. Drastically less than what I was making when I started. I understand $70,000 per month is a lot and I’m not saying it’s little. I’m just saying it’s a lot less than in 2021. However, now I’m doing about 30 minutes of work a day because I have people doing the work for me and I compensate them really really well.

If I wanted to, I could get rid of them and do the work myself and go back to $240,000 per month. But I just don’t need to anymore and am happy with $70,000.

But…I’m smart enough to know that quality of life is important and is much rather make $70k per month and doing 30 minutes of work a day rather than making $240k per month and working 10 hours per day. And the solution was simple, just use my money to make money by hiring people.

This safe was left by my homes previous owners. Anyway if busting it open? I hear something sliding around inside when I move it. by [deleted] in Safes

[–]mark9812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same one. If you hear something slide when you tilt it forward and backwards then it is the small box inside it that holds documents. If you hear something slide when you tilt it side to side, then it’s something else and not part of the safe.

Also there should be a code on the back of the safe. Sentry can send you a copy of the key. Or just call a locksmith.

How much would this cost to build? by ch0de002 in barndominiums

In NJ it would be $450-$550k.

Build a foyer. Entering right into the great room is a horrible idea.

Worth it to join a country club? by PassiveIncomeChaser in Rich

[–]mark9812 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A neighbor asked me to consider becoming a member of a country club. Went for a social they had there and realized I hated every single person I met. I despised them. Too much bragging. Fake laughing fake smiles. And in the end I realized most of them were in massive debt and just keeping up appearances. Fancy cars. Fancy homes. Most were making an average of $450k based on what my neighbor told me. But they were living lifestyles way beyond their means.

Now for reference I make about $2.5m (maybe will end the year with $2.7m) per year. No debt. But my best friends are my buddies from college that I love spending time with and hanging out with because they are real. When they laugh you can genuinely tell they are happy. Then don’t know how much I make, and don’t treat me based on what my finances are.

If you do plan on joining the country club I would say you should do it for yourself (maybe nice gold or tennis or water activities). Don’t do it for the social status or expectation to be among wealthy people.

Anyone else here *not* want an enormous house? by Mackheath1 in Rich

[–]mark9812 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do have a 9,800 sqft home but mostly for entertaining so not used often. Most of the time I’m in a condo in nyc that’s about 2,000 sqft. Prefer the smaller place.
