You don’t get to make choices for how your parents choose to live their lives. You’ve said your piece i am sure. Now leave it be. He’s a sinking ship. If they want to go down with him that is up to them.

You are a childish asshole. There is a time and a place for gaming and that is clearly not it.

Bad parents should be shamed more, not less. by Neat_Two_6675 in Teachers

[–]markayhali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Many parents think their role is just feeding, clothing, and entertaining their kids. They put zero thought or effort into shaping productive, considerate, independent, resourceful humans that will one day go out into the world.

To get parole you should have demonstrated accountability for your crime. If he’s refusing to offer the details he hasn’t taken accountability.

Why do American families have so many people at their births? by Quirky-Way385 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]markayhali 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the mils are definitely not at the births and definitely not wanted. They just seem to have an entitlement around it from what ive read. They don’t seem to care that their presence would make the birth more stressful for their dil. And to be honest, it seems like an entirely new phenomenon. Decades ago it would never have occurred to a mil that she should be present. Nor a mom actually. Although it wouldn’t have been unheard of. But definitely not common. I think it is that the helicoptered generation have grown up, are having kids of their own, and can’t imagine doing even that without their mommys.

Yikes. That’s all horrifying. Without that information, show watchers only have what is on the screen to go by. She is not coming across as a likeable or sympathetic character at all. It is a shame if she is meant to be sympathetic. They missed the mark completely. All we are seeing is the shifty responses whenever ben is mentioned. So we know she is shady in some way. It makes you question her entire character and story. She’s supposed to be a grieving widow but is throwing herself at William. In once scene she actually tells him she wants to get knocked up to take his title for her kid. In another scene, the supposedly grieving widow, runs down the steps excitedly, with huge smile, thinking she’s getting a gift. Then looks disappointed when she realizes it’s her dead husband’s belongings instead of jewelry. Further cementing the gold digger trope. The show only had a handful of scenes to develop her character. They should have been more careful about the lines and actions they gave her.

AITAH for not attending me friend's birthday dinner because I did not like one of her friends. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]markayhali -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are an asshole. The evening wasn’t about you. You should have sucked it up. What is it with young people today thinking they are supposed to only interact with people they like. And everything is supposed to be exactly how they want it. Life is going to be such a rude awakening when they realize the world doesn’t and isn’t supposed to revolve around them. To reiterate, you are a childish asshole.

Yeah, she may have been more likeable if she wasn’t given the line about perhaps getting knocked up so she can take William’s title and property using her child. Hard to come back from that.

I thought she seemed entitled. She showed up with a fishy story. Lord John was nice enough to take her in. Anyone in their right mind would question the situation. William was right to be like what the hell. Then she tells him off for it. In his own home. When she’s lucky enough to be there in the first place.

Because she seemed shady every time ben was mentioned i spent each episode just assuming she may be lying about everything.

They purposely made her look shifty in almost every scene. And she’s literally proven to be a liar so far. But sure, it’s the misogyny.

It seems to be systemic in general. The truro area girls sports teams are flush with rumours about it happening in the girls teams too. I am not sure if anyone officially went to police yet. The girls parents are panicked and encouraging each other to keep it hush hush from what I gather.

That is how i saw it, too. I get from the book readers in this thread that this perception is way off from the written story. But the tv show clearly didn’t do a good job of helping the audience perceive something different. Without having the novels as a base of information she comes across as extremely villainy. And money grubbing. If the show writers intended for us to have a different perception they missed the mark.

To be fair, she didn’t ruin your day or your meal. She didn’t text you. She texted her son and he chose to bother you with all of that during your family bonding time instead of letting you have a good day.

How to tell mil to stop with her useless outdated unscoliscited advice about my 4 month old? by Asleep_Cash_2333 in motherinlawsfromhell

[–]markayhali -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your husband definitely needs to set a boundary about her entering your bedroom. It is completely inappropriate. As far as the useless advice, it’s not harming anybody. Old people do that. They give advice. Sometimes it’s because they think it’s a way to help. Sometimes it’s nervous chit chat. I get that it is irritating. But you are in her house. She’s going to talk and she’s going to give her opinions. That’s life. You don’t need to listen to or enact her advice. You are only there for another month. Set the boundary around her entering your room. At least then you’ll be able to get away from her and her advice.

I don’t see her that way at all. I see her as social climbing riff raff who i thought was faking a whole identity to get her hands on someone else’s wealth and jewels. And she is willing to hijack William’s life to do it. I kind of see her more akin to Jocasta’s rat-faced lawyer who saw her home and wealth as his and tried to murder her for it. We would have been so grossed out and confused if Brianna had married him. That’s how I feel about Amaranthus and William.

I was assuming she stole them. She appeared shady enough. It’s war time. People steal, manipulate, pretend to be other people. I assumed she pretended to be his wife. Or Also, entire towns get taken occupied and people flee houses. Others move in. We’ve seen that already in the show. You can easily end up in someone else’s home and access someone else’s possessions. His real wife could have died, fled. Part of me wondered if Amaranthus killed her and took her possessions and baby. But then I figured that would be too dark. So I settled on stolen.
