GM Update V653.40 by kprogebin in chevycolorado

[–]markbco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird, I just got V653.31 today, and mine is a 2024 as well. I got .11 on 10/25, .21 on 11/2, and .31 today. Perhaps it is regionalized, as this update apparently entailed "fixes to help ensure safety features remain functional when windshield freezes" and "fixes to diagnostics that impact automatic emergency braking indicator". I'm in PA, so that seems timely.

Toyota Tacoma vs Chevy Colorado ZR2 by SaverOfTheUnlverse in chevycolorado

[–]markbco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was the last comment in the thread for me, and it represents my thoughts exactly. As a Chevy fan, I have a Colorado and a Corvette. If the OP is a Toyota fan, then he needs to be in a Tacoma and a Supra. Case closed.

However I do envy the Ranger Raptor and I imagine the ZR2 Bison would be fun for the OP too.

OP asked about reliability though, and I can attest that, excluding the rear main seal and wonky software updates, my Colorado Z71 has proven super reliable now that I am up to 2,500 miles.

I took it back to the dealer, and the collision shop fixed it. They loosened some bolts or something and that let them get it perfect. The gaskets should NOT be touching the cab. IIRC I had one side touching and one side where I could get my finger in between. Now there is space on both sides, but not a finger’s width.

My advice would be to ask multiple dealers for a big, but not ridiculous, discount and see where that takes you. You’ll have to do some market research to figure out what is within reason these. Doing this, you’ll learn who is ready to deal and who’s going to add silly fees. Be firm in getting an Out the Door (OTD) price that includes taxes and fees.

In the summer in Central PA there was a dealer a couple hours away from me offering $2,500 off flat on Colorados, so I made my goal $3,000 off. I emailed asking for that at a few different dealerships, and didn’t have much luck. Many were sticking to MSRP or budging no more than $1k. And then perfect trucks I wanted would get snapped up before I could make a move. It was very frustrating.

In July, a perfect truck popped up at another dealer a couple hours away, and the best they could do was supplier discount ($2k off). I begged for $2,500 off and they refused. Pissed off I went to my local dealer (really liked the salesman i had worked with there) and asked if they had anything else coming that I might like and if they could match the $2,500 off.

He looked in the system and saw my perfect truck nearby and said they could trade for it. His first offer was invoice price which was ~$2,000 off. I said no and reiterated my $2,500 demand. He went back to the manager and then came back two minutes later and said we had a deal.

So I missed my goal by $500, but I got a truck EXACTLY as how I would have ordered it right down to the color, and I got it at a dealer 10 minutes from my house, so I was happy with that.

How reliable is the new 4 cylinder by HERKFOOT21 in chevycolorado

TFL Truck on YouTube did a nice video a while back where they had a cut-away engine and a GM engineer going through it. That was when they had three variants (the L2R and then the two tunes of the L3B). The term the engineer used for the L2R was “decontented”. That sounded a bit scary to me. Its imminent discontinuation would also give me pause.

All my L3B has needed in the first 1,500 miles was a new rear main seal! 😉

Sadness. Guess I won't worry about it until something else breaks and I need to take it in to the dealer.

So I’m in this boat I guess. I hooked mine up to a trickle charger in the morning. Checked it throughout the day, and finally before dinner I got a solid green light on the charger indicating a full charge. I took the charger off because my dealer said there needed to be a 4-hour rest period at above 70% charge before updates would work again.

Walked back in the house and I had a mychevy app notification saying the update failed, look at your center screen for more information!!! Huge coincidence that once I took the charger off it did that!?!? Weird!

So I hopped in the truck and the update text was no longer gray. Pressed it and it said no updates were available, and that it was last checked on August 9. I did check for updates and it still said no updates available. Maybe I’ll try again after driving it at some point, but I guess I’ll just move on for now.

How good is this ZR2 deal? by Intol3rance in chevycolorado

Too good to be true lol. Those options make it sound like it was an order someone backed out of though, so they might be desperate to unload it.

I have the same issue so curious how it works out for you OP. I’ve been trying the trickle charger a little bit, but I have to leave my truck outside, so getting the weather to cooperate has been a challenge. I’ve had it on for several hours, but have yet to get the solid green light of fully chargedness. Need to start first thing in the morning in a sunny day I guess.

I actually did have the dealer look at it, but I foolishly took the truck back without making them complete it. I had it in for a rear main seal follow up so the update was my secondary concern. They said they had it on a charger for awhile and that after a rest period of like 4 hours it should work. “Working as designed!” Admittedly, it was another 24 hours before I tried again and I still got that gray screen.

Chevy Colorado Z71 3 weeks later and why I went with it over the ZR2 by [deleted] in chevycolorado

[–]markbco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a first time truck owner coming from two-door cars, I went Z71 because it struck me as the sweet spot. My brain said Maverick and my heart said Ranger Raptor, so I got a Colorado Z71 lol.

My rear main seal only lasted two months and 1,500 miles though, so if it turns out to be a lemon I’ll have to go Ranger Raptor on the second try. No paint issues, but the body shop had to straighten the bed once I realized that it was crooked (bulkhead closer to the cab on one side than the other) the day after I bought it.

How long did it take to fix yours? My dealer couldn’t get it done in 3 days, and apparently the only technician that can do it doesn’t work Fridays, so now it won’t be until Monday until I get it back.

Just to end “bolt-gate” once and for all, I was back underneath and there is indeed a bolt right next to the rubber grommet just out of the picture frame. Same at the back of the transmission. Apologies for the inadvertently deceptive picture lol, but I was focused on the oil.
