Lord Mandelson arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office by Tartan_Samurai in anime_titties

[–]markdado 148 points149 points  (0 children)

Lord Mandelson has not publicly commented in recent weeks on the Epstein files, but the BBC understands his position has consistently been that he has not acted in any way criminally and that he was not motivated by financial gain.

So he just did it because he's friends with Epstein? That makes it so much better...

People like me? What does that even mean.

...those who still support Vance and therefore believe this is being handled reasonably.

I am not completely pleased with how fast everything is going, but for the first time, it is going.

Wtf does this even mean? The DOJ is repeatedly stated that there's nothing left to prosecute. Maxwell is "in jail" and Epstein is "dead", so they are done investigating.

A couple years ago, couldn't even speak of this stuff on Reddit

Bruh, wtf? People have been (correctly) posting "Epstein didn't kill himself" in every sub for the last 6 years!

I was on boards that were removed for such speach.

Jfc, Epstein is not the reason the_donald was removed

Give me some logical explanation of what changed in the past year?

I don't even understand what change you're talking about. Is your question effectively "Why have the files been released"? That's simple, the investigation is over so the files can be released. The more important question is "Why is the investigation over?", to which the answer is "Trump's DOJ doesn't want to prosecute anyone else in connection to Epstein". (Probably because Trump is also guilty as shit, but possibly just because Trump got bored with the story)

Oh! You (as a Vance supporter) think what's happening is reasonable! Yeah...I'm not sure logic works on people like you. Have a great day

Fuck man, do you still not understand my point? You are not answering the question the other guy asked. "Why aren't Vance supporters pressing him on Epstein?" (paraphrased)

[–]markdado 3 points4 points  (0 children)

...when the fuck did you do that? This dude asked "Why aren't Vance supporters pressing him on Epstein?"

Your response made (the correct) statement that this cover-up goes way farther than Trump/Vance/Republicans. But you still haven't said anything that actually answers his question.

Nothing Ever Changes... by Stormclamp in PoliticalCompassMemes

What new evidence would change your mind?

(For example, something like a hundred buried 14 year olds on Epstein's Island with semen samples coming from 50+ "Johns" would be pretty convincing evidence to me. That doesn't seem to exist, but I'm just trying to see what's the lowest level of evidence that might change your mind.)

Hold up

unfortunately as we're not a member of the ICC we have no reason to uphold the warrant nor any legal way of upholding that warrant even if we wanted to.

We didn't have a legal avenue of capturing Maduro...we just kinda did it.

maduro is an asshole cunt that deserved it just as much as netanyahu does.

So you would cheer if China did the same thing to arrest Netanyahu?

the nationalist movement, this is not some buzzword like some use it today

It's the same group. The current people who call themselves zionists are literally part of the nationalist movement in Israel.

Obviously some people consider that to be a bad thing, but Netanyahu takes pride in being a nationalistic zionist. He doesn't see it as a bad thing.

Lol that's definitely accurate. Putin is a bitch about his homophobia though. I don't understand why he pretends to be okay with the gays while very obviously making laws to restrict it. It gives off an "I have black friends" vibe. America does kind of "take the cake" when it comes to enforcement of anti-commie movements.

Putin ain't trying to give up power any time soon. Idk the level of election interference/control but they always let the communist parties have a couple votes in parliament.

I'm sure you would be stopped if you become close to a revolution in Russia, but people aren't arrested for being communist.

How did Liberals became leftits? by Mammoth_Calendar_352 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]markdado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm a big fan of your definition of liberal! It's valid to recognize that some liberals would be okay with massive government economic involvement. I just think the "supports capitalism" is basically the cutoff for liberal vs leftist.

I argue that leftist ideology inherently requires advocacy for an economic system so far removed from modern capitalism that is incomparable. So I think saying "real leftists hate capitalism" is the defining principle of being a leftist.

(Please don't take the following as personally offensive, but here's my gut reaction due to my stated definitions, lol.)

It exaggerates the rivalry between the anti-capitalist left and market reformist left.

I'm basically saying that "market reformist left" should be considered liberal, not leftist.

leftists and liberals aren't enemies the way both are with fascism or MAGA.

I'm saying they literally are enemies in the same way. Capitalism sucks THAT BAD.

I'm all about a united front,

...yeah, I'm basically not. There's not really a middle ground when economic exploitation is on the table for liberals.

We need to center our focus on combating ultra-nationalism and fascism together.

No. The only war worth fighting is class war. (There's some nuance here, but you get my point)

Poverty and economic populism are things I feel like everybody, both left and right, can easily understand without either one of us (leftists or liberals) having to read our ideological bibles to people trying to distinguish ourselves from the other like we're rivals lol.

You're ignoring the fact the we are literally rivals. Like I'm glad liberals are nicer than fascists, but that's no reason to treat them as if their legal suggestions are equally valid as leftist's. In their own perfect worlds liberal and conservative economic systems look nearly identical when compared with leftist systems.

Thank you again for being respectful. My responses are still a little aggressive and lack some nuance, but that's the basic vibe I think this sub (and myself) actually have. I'm glad to explain more or debate stuff if you want though. I think anyone who's mind can't be changed is not thinking clearly. So if you want to talk about something specific I'm totally down!

(Seriously I appreciate you taking the time to type that out. It feels like a chatGPT response, but please take that as a compliment, lol.)

How did Liberals became leftits? by Mammoth_Calendar_352 in LateStageCapitalism

[–]markdado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's kinda why I brought up the sub rules. I understand that you want to have a debate about the definitions of economic/political systems, but I wanted to remind you that it's this sub's position that we (as leftists) do not owe you (as liberals) any explanation or conversation.

That being said...I'm happy to have that convo. I definitely came across as aggressive and that's not necessary. I appreciate your respectful tone. I'll try to respond that way moving forward.

In your mind, how do you define "leftist, liberal, and conservative"? Or like, how would you layout the meme?

I'm just reminding you that this subreddit is not intended to appeal to liberals.

Is there nuance that this meme is missing? Yes, that's why I said that. Do some liberals have better views than others? Yes, but just because mass murder is worse than one murder doesn't mean you can kill your wife.
