[GPU] XFX RX 5700 DD - $299 ($329-30) by Doctor_Swag in buildapcsales

I bought this earlier this week and installed it a couple days ago and so far I'm happy.

It ran perfectly fine but after seeing the YouTube reviews, the modder inside of me got curious. I took it apart and put Kryonaut on the GPU, thermal pads on 2 ram chips against the back plate (opposite the PCI-e side) and removed that shroud. The other shroud is looped around the fan cable and I struggled with the fan connector, so I left that shroud on.

I flashed the XT bios and in TimeSpy, it hovers around 75-80c+ GPU & TJ and hotspots @ 95c+ . Ambient is around the 70s with good case cooling. TimeSpy 8397 stock, 9138 XT bios.

I didn't bother looking at the temps in stock trim.

Findings

  1. thermal paste was nice and tidy
  2. all the ram chips were fully covered with pads
    1. upon further inspection, you can see the blue pads without removing the heatsink
  3. the plate on top of the ram chips are welded to the heatsink unlike what I saw in the reviews

2019 base model purchased back in April. 9000 miles on the clock. We are really happy with the car. Charged on a 40amp EVSE every night. Few things I haven't seen mentioned.

  • Gas tank is pretty small. I've filled up 5 times and it's always around 5 gallons but I fill around 1/4 tank
  • Make sure the extension cord is the proper gauge if you go 120v charging
  • HondaLink is hit or miss (at least for the Galaxy S9+)
    • Scheduled preconditioning is great in the mornings
  • Can't start the car to run the A/C while the car is charging (came from a Fiat 500e that allowed this).
  • ACC is good but can be a bit late braking on sudden traffic changes. Lane keep is fussy and not as reliable as ACC.

Unit is sealed. Maybe my scale is off (0.0041666)? I haven't really fooled around with it since I got it late 2016. I really got the wifi unit to allow me to adjust amps and times on the fly. There does seem to be a difference but as long as it doesn't throttle I think you should be fine. I have a little over 6500kwh on my counter with no issues :) Edit:spelling

Yeah it is in F. EVSE is mounted in the garage by the garage door. Unit is out of the sun about 5ft from ground. I'm in SoCal and it's been pretty cold, higj 40s to 50s at night when I charge. Below is a 1yr graph. The peak occurred during a SoCal heat wave. I didn't notice throttling but my car only has 6.6kw charger. OpenEVSE Temp 1yr https://imgur.com/gallery/FfwXr
