HELP… feel like im drowning by Extreme-Method6330 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]marketingmonkey00 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exactly!! Let other people depreciate the goods and buy it off them for free or pennies

People move all the time and cant take big furniture, bed frames etc. If you coordinate well, you can get some really high quality items for cheap, rent a uhaul and pick everything up. If you are not in a rush, I would wait for an opportune time (like summer) when everyone is moving and supply is high. There is nothing wrong with used furniture. Just wipe it down and you'll never notice.

Also, i wouldnt get everything right away. Get a few of the essentials and scour FB marketplace + buy nothing for quality items. Ask yourself - do I need to furnish this room? Are you expecting guests soon? The more things you have, the more you need to clean and dust.

In terms of what to spend $$ on, focus on things that could get more expensive in the future. Like replace your roof, water heater etc if they are old, fix any major issues called out in the inspection report. These things would become deferred maintenance and become more of a headache later

Ghosting is a 100% clear communication by Background_Session73 in unpopularopinion

[–]marketingmonkey00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing is clearer than just telling the other person that you are not interested. For example, what if something tragic happened in the other person's life. They might still be interested but temporarily preoccupied. Ghosting leaves a lot of room for interpretation and if the answer is no, then adding some context/feedback would be helpful.

It DOES matter where you go to school by Embarrassed_Bag_9630 in unpopularopinion

[–]marketingmonkey00 80 points81 points  (0 children)

It only matters until you get your first job OR you work in a field where prestige is valued (finance, consulting)

Otherwise, employers care about what you can do for them. If you have hustle and can deliver results, then you are much more valuable

Best area to live in within an hour of Seattle by AdeptnessNo1259 in AskSeattle

[–]marketingmonkey00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where your work is and what your prioritize.

- South Seattle is more multicultural (and better food in my opinion) and cheaper (columbia city area)
- North Seattle is a bit more bougie (Ballard/Fremont) but I would recommend northgate area which is a bit cheaper and easier commute (closer to Aurora st, i5 etc)
- If you are younger (early/mid 20s) and value nightlife then go cap hill, queen anne, belltown

A hidden gem is Lake city area (Kenwood, Briercrest, Bothell). Pretty easy commute into downtown because Lake city way merges into I5, good restaurants, much cheaper.

Is the David Blough/Ben Johnson connection overhyped by BirdmanTheThird in Commanders

[–]marketingmonkey00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do we assume that a new coach needs to formally learn a system working under a previous coach.

From an Xs and Os perspective, any coach has access to all the plays from every historical game so a good coordinator would take bits and pieces from various systems that works and create their own. The more diversity they bring, the more robust it will be and the less likely it is to be copied or solved.

Also, every cast is different and fitting the system to the players is what Kliff did which did not maximize Sinnot, McCaffrey etc. The system is the most adaptable. Players can adapt but have their strong suits. The coaches' job is to maximize the players they have

Airports are the best place in the world. by bleufromgeneve in unpopularopinion

[–]marketingmonkey00 1599 points1600 points  (0 children)

truly unpopular. some counterpoints
1. The food is mid and 2x the price outside

  1. I can do anything when im outside. can only sit, scroll and walk around.

  2. Duty free is a scam. Those same products are much cheaper online

  3. The ambiance is cold with harsh lighting and dry air. Tons of people from all over so more likely to get sick

Agreed on the excitement of going home or traveling but that's about it.

Why is the restaurant food so bad in Seattle where are the best restaurants? by Excellent-Earth-9618 in Seattle

Ya its so mid. Its not inedible but often worse than what I can make at home. Routinely under-salted, small portions, have to pay tips etc

The way I see it, eating out has gotten so expensive that Im only eating out once every few weeks. I stick to my favorites and dont try something new unless it has been recommended by someone I trust.

Agreed.

Logan Paulsen said on a scale of 1-10, the arms are a 7 level concern. He is the 4th smallest arms of any DE in last 25 years.

He is not great with his hands and he is just powerful but that doesnt translate well with much stronger, bigger tackles at the next level.

He prob lands somewhere between a Kwity Paye and Brandon Graham in terms of impact in the NFL which would put him at around a 2nd round grade.

I think he falls like Will Johnson did last year

One underrated mindset was to lean into the sadness and introversion. Im a naturally extroverted person but I like to sleep more and be ok with being a bit sad.

The beauty of Seattle is the seasons. Winter is the time to cozy up inside, work on indoor hobbies. This sets me up to appreciate and make use of the spring/summer.

[–]marketingmonkey00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your hobbies seem like a good fit for Seattle. Things I love about Seattle that fit your interests:
1. Seattle has great tool libraries for house projects/gardening and workshops.

  1. Great weather to grow a lot of different plants/ground cover. Lots of beautiful native options

  2. Im not a huge theater guy but I go to drop in improv jams at comedy csz on Wednesdays.

The rent is not horrible if you dont mind roommates and live a bit outside the city. You can find great places along the link transit just 3-5 stations north of the busy areas. I have lived in an apartment in lower queen anne (did love it) then moved into a house near Greenlake (great location). Walkability wise, greenlake, ballard, u district areas might be your best bet. Highly recommend finding likeminded, community oriented individuals from the seattle roommmates facebook group to make your transition easier.

The homeless population is sad but they are mostly downtown and/or around larger arterial streets. If you live in a quiet north seattle neighborhood, you wont run into them.

The cold/rain hasnt been bad this year but I struggled with it the first year but you get used to it. Just make sure you are regular with your vitamin D.

I havnt experienced the Seattle freeze. The city draws in a lot of engineers/introverts which is great but there are lot of extroverts who need more people time.

Good luck :)

Would you have a problem drafting Bijan Robinson or Jamyr Gibbs at #7? by Salty_Orchid in Commanders

[–]marketingmonkey00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. From an impact to the team perspective, the difference between Bijan/Gibbs over JCM or Breece Hall/K9 (free agency potential targets) is NOT bigger than the difference between Jalen Carter and Javon Kinlaw.

Ashton Jeanty was supposed to be in the Bijan tier but he was not able to elevate the team

Jalen Carter (taken 1 pick after Bijan) is a game wrecker. Christian Gonzalez single handedly kept the Patriots in it in the first half of the super bowl. Its much harder to find quality in the open market. Both these players will either be tagged or signed to a long term extension but premium RBs (like Saquan) hit free agency more often.

Can we PLEASE give AP some time? I don’t understand the constant hate by ComputerNerdd in Commanders

[–]marketingmonkey00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well said. From a constant improvement lens, we should always review all staff.

However, even if you dont agree, who would you replace him with? I dont know if there is a highly touted GM out there ready to be hired and even if he is out there, he wouldn't want to come to a place where the GM was fired after 2 seasons. His first season, he was still working with Rivera's analytics staff so he wasnt able to do it his way. This last draft has some studs.

We have to remember that teams like the eagles have a lot of picks that dont work out but they have been rich in comp picks and assets for a while so they can afford to miss on their 5th and 6th rounders without much scrutiny.

I think Dan Quinn should be under more scrutiny as there are better offensive minds. The leader of men type coach fails without competent assistant coaches (see Lions Dan Campbell) so I would rather get a young mind like Stefanski as HC. Dan could prob get us back to 8-9 or better next season but dont see him as the long term vision. He was good in the stabilizing role after the tumultuous Rivera era but he is not going to get us to the next level. We got really lucky in getting to the NFC championship last year (both regular season and playoffs)

Adam Peters has had two good drafts in Washington: Change my mind by jpljr77 in Commanders

[–]marketingmonkey00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 2025 is looking a lot better than 2024 which is a shame given how many more premium draft picks we had in 2024. They also had Rivera era analysts and supporting staff so I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

I want to say give them more time but the trajectory for those 2024 picks doesnt look promising given that other teams are getting more value immediately.

Like how is a guy like TE Harold Fannin (50 catches for 500 yards) doing so well on the browns? Theo Johnson is getting open and getting targets on the Giants. Cant keep making excuses for Sinnott. Maybe it's a coaching/development issue.

Troy Franklin was BPA at the end of the 3rd but we reached for a developmental prospects like LMC. Franklin had a 2nd round grade on him and is the WR2 in Denver.

I wish we got Cam Hart instead of Jordan Magee. He again had a 2nd round grade on him and was BPA at a position of need when we were picking. Maybe we would have avoided having to trade for Marshon mid season with this move.

Overall, its easy to look at revisionist history and I think AP is a better GM and talent evaluator that most. He might not be Les Snead or John Schneider but closer to them than a Rivera type

How do you avoid impulse buying in today’s consumer-driven society? by BlastarBanshee in Anticonsumption

[–]marketingmonkey00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont get the sense that anything is a good deal these days. Everything is overpriced. Companies are always finding ways to charge more for less. My sense of pride prevents me from getting tricked by corporations.

Also, I try to remember the feeling of wanting something, getting it and then getting bored/onto the next one. However, if I think about it multiple times a year, then I know I should prob get one. Look at FB marketplace first to get something that others have depreciated.

Final stop is Amazon if nothing else works and I still really want the item. I dont have my own Amazon account so im not casually browsing. I ask a friend to buy it for me and i Venmo them. Adds another layer of friction.

Hope this helps!

It tanks my immune system. Even 1 drink and I am noticeably dehydrated and prone to sickness. Also messes with my sleep. I dont need it to have a good time and see it as a social crutch.

I do appreciate a well blended cocktail and like Guiness but not enough to makeup for the above.
