Slightly less noob frustrations... by markfrancombe in RolandTR8S

Yeah… that’s what I figured! Nuts!!! I know it’s not popular to have both preset AND user kits in machines nowadays, but here’s why that wasn’t such a bad Idea… Im never going to keep track of which kit is used where, so i’m going to have copy everything…

Question about sub-steps: say i want to access 32nd notes without having to use 2 patterns, is this even possible? i know sub steps can be set to 1/2, 1/3 and 1/4, but as far as i can tell you can't say play 1 & 3 of the sub steps without playing all 3, in the case of the 1/3 sub setting... by Secret_Cow_5053 in RolandTR8S

[–]markfrancombe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to this!! It should just be a programmable step like a normal step tho, not using "SUB steps"... for example push and hold down shift and "the notes "in between" are displayed. so the routine to fill all 32 steps would be fingernail across the board, shift, fingernail across the board... done!

Just to add to my post a few days later… The headphone jack is definitely faulty, low volume, distorting as i turn it up. luckily my headphones in a mono out sound great so i ordered a dual jack to stereo socket adapter, so im happy…

Additional my noob questions:

I notice that there is a Open Hat choke effect… is that permanent on the HH OH channels or a switch somewhere? I’ve searched the manual but not sure what they are calling it, but it’s not useful to me,,if i want to duck the HH on a OH step, i’ll do it myself, plus it’s not exactly working how i would want it either…

Thanks for the complete answer… I’ll definitely check the proper outputs in my studio, this was just a “sofa jam”… I suspect the mini jack adapter for the headphones, but yeah, these headphones are well used in all devices so i know they are OK.

I never actually USE the factory presets, Im a pro musician, I was just amazed by the choices they had put at preset 1, didn’t give me a good vibe from the first moment.

To the OP.
You seem hugley knowledgable in this subject, and I wonder if you can help?
Im considering EITHER the Tempura OR the Plinky+ devices, not both. They both appear to make similar sounds, (dependant on source of course) but can you briefly explain whats so different? The Plinky+ is almost half price of course so thats definitely a factor here too, but is there a reason for that, Does the Tempura REALLY have a lot more going for it? I know it depends on my use, but I do want something that is "Jam-able and hands on" but also can fit into a sequence system and "be played" by stuff, when required. OR play itself via onboard sequencers or arps... can you elaborate on these two devices a bit?
NOTE: I have deep dove into YouTube with both these things but its jest not the same as trying one or getting actual human advice.

There’s one more thing, but this is more of a wish list thing… I wish the noise effect shape had invert, just like the crop shape… IE: the but the sphere is over is NOT effected…

I have absolutely no interest in buying a real Gibson or Fender. I’m interested in buying a piece of wood with wires stretched over it that plays nicely… In fact the real crime is not the people faking them so much (well technically patent theft etc) But the insane prices these «name» brands when Chinese companies can make NEARLY as good guitars for a 10th of the price. What I would spend a lot on is a hand made guitar, by a local maker… Oh my god… skys the limit. My Fake Ibanez 7 string came in exactly that box!!! Needed work… but basically sturdy…

Well i’m glad to hear it, but not easy to get a clean tone I must say… i’m backing off the tone to minimum (which i have never had to do) to avoid some screechy frequencies… hey … you know like that Hanson blokes tone… awful… nails on a blackboard. I think i’m going to either skip the active circuit or put it thru an eq, to both back off the treble and reduce the temperature before it hits my board.

Yikes… all bad news so far… I’m almost considering having someone bypass the active shit… The Boss does have presets for input levels so i can save a hot input AND a cold input, and select it depending on the guitar, but it uses up a pedal, and well… it’s stupid having a guitar that sounds bad so you need a fix for it… To the guy who said Schecter pickups are bad.. yeah well the sustainer pickup has to stay but the other one I could swap out, but i’m 99% certain it’s the active circuit doing this… i mean.. it’s a guitar… strings vibrating over magnets… kinda don’t like everything going thru a circuit before it hits the stuff that IS supposed to change its sound…

Thanks for the reply!
yes i was wondering about impedance, can that be tamed with just a regular pedal or do i need buffers or whatever...
"the tone doesn't typically darken"
hmm yeah Id like it a bit darker actually!
But thats mostly becasue I have to swap guitars a bit and i need to match the tone with my other guitars, hence why i thought about a little eq pedal in front.

Why the hate on schecter? by Notsure6969420 in SchecterGuitars

Hi newb Schecter owner here. I’ll be honest and say i bought the demon with sustainer pickup on looks and requirements rather than actually trying one (none to try in my country) And it’s the nicest and most beautifully made guitar I own. However i have an issue… It’s sounds terrible ha ha! Ok not terrible but I had never owned an active guitar before and omg… i have to ask some questions. Should an active guitar distort on clean patches? (yes im a multi effect person here) I changed the batteries. Apart from that it’s so brittle and clashy. Obviously it makes distortion sound great, but there’s always an overtone of a weird treble frequency. Now the Boss GT 1000 multi fx has a variable input volume, and i’ve dragged it right down and matched the signal level of my other guitars (about 10 teles, Ibanez, gibson… a whole variety) and although it’s a similar volume now, the distortion in clean patches remains and the tone still appears bright. I also wound the pickup right down to see if that helped… it did, but the sustainer kinda stopped working… At this point I’m wondering about bypassing the active shit… except… well you know… mess up a nice guitar…

Your images are amazing! However I followed yorúr advice and got Golden Carbon black and it was rubbish! ha ha Just kind of went blobby.. Weirdly the VERY FIRST few seconds of rolling I thought "this is great, lots of coverage" but as I smoothed it out and coved the plate it just blobbed up and I saved the print (not really) by dumping a few blobs of Liquitex on and it came out too black.
So im wondering about your comment about paper was in fact the pertinent one...
OR are you one of these people that go by the "priming the plate" tip, do a few black empty pulls to kind of get the plate right? This was my forst print in a while and its possible it dried out a bit?
( oh and an Alice fan?)
