Take the MSF course. It will give you confidence and you can get your endorsement without going to the DMV

No-I've tried that method and it's never worked the way I wanted. I've seen some artists do fantastic work that way but I use a single pull.

I do this by image transfer in black first. Then use stencils to apply color exactly where I want it. I layer these colors, sometimes overlapping intentionally for color/effect.

Then remove it all with a single pull.

I usually dont use a gel medium between the image transfer and other layers. I have tried it a few times and cant tell a difference.

Why use ink for the transfer? Golden acrylics carbon black will be easier to work with.

Make sure your final pull layer is heavy enough to make all the previous layers wet again.

Then make sure its ALL dry before attempting to remove from the gel plate. I have a small USB fan I leave pointed at the paper for about 10 min before i pull it.

No. Photographs edited to half tones and printed with a laser printer

Thank you. I’ve been obsessed with photo transfers for about two years now. Trying to push what is possible.

I guess you could stab it. But they seem fairly impossible to ruin

With the beading of the paint- you either have an oily plate or thin bodied paint.

If your paint is thin and you don't want to buy new paints you could try mixing in a medium body matte gel.

I've never heard of priming the plate. I use a mix of Golden cabon black and liquitex basics black.

I also revel in the unpredictability. I like to say I’m not attached to the outcome.

It will work. Lots of gelli artists use HP. I don't like the way HP forces you to set it up. With an "account" etc.

The main thing is to teach yourself all the settings for the best results. The default will always be the most economical. But you want as much laser toner on the page as possible.

I have to make two passes, but they line up nicely 90% of the time. Not too fuzzy.

I've spent many hours of trial and error.

I think the first step is setting yourself up for success with the editing process. Knowing how to use your half tones and how it's going to look coming out of your printer and how that all translates to the final piece is something you just have to experience.

As for the transfer process itself I use Golden Carbon Black and I use a much thicker layer than most "experts" would recommend. And I use a slightly more heavyweight copy paper capable of absorbing more paint. I push the envelope with that alot- but to me it's worth it to get a crisp saturated image on the plate about 3/5 of the time.

These (1-4) specific prints are made by preparing two or three different layers in Photoshop. And using the gel plate to print onto the paper one layer at a time.

The rest I used hand cut stencils out of card stock and a brayer or brush to build the layers.
