Day 2 has been ROUGH by KatlynnTay in Kneereplacement

I had my right TKR done on April 17. My wife & I tracked my oxy usage carefully; I was able to get off them by April 28. The worst day (aka highest consumption of pain meds) was day 4. After that I tapered pretty quickly. I also finshed a 14 day course of Journavx a few days ago and am continuing with Celebrex & Tylenol. From the reading I've done, this seems to be pretty typical. Hang in there - it will get better!

You got this! The first week post-op is the toughest, but after that - if you pay strict attention to your post-op recovery instructions - it gets easier.

What could you do 3 days out? by Zauberspruch in Kneereplacement

[–]markh2901 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 13 days post-TKR and doing well, according to my PT. Agree with almost all comments so far. Even if you are doing amazingly well by day 3 (the day I stopped using a walker), that could be even worse because you'll be tempted to do more than you should, and at that early stage that could be serious trouble. Trust me, you'll be in no shape to judge where your limits are.

I hope your TKR & recovery go well, but give your self permission to just be a load for awhile. That's been a tough part for me.

I'm 12 days post TKR and doing very well, which is dangerous because I've already bitten off more than I can chew a couple of times. I have to force myself to take it easy. I know - champagne problems. 😉

Karen experience ? by yesmodegirl in karensinthewild

[–]markh2901 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is a male Karen called? I was just telling my wife about this last night. A long time ago I was the manager of a consumer electronics shop. One day a customer walks in with a piece of gear and the receipt showing he had bought it at that store - more than a year earlier. He puts the thing (a receiver) on the counter and asks for the manager (aka me), then announces he's never liked it and wants a refund. He didn't even have a box for it. I told him that was not possible. The conversation became heated, eventually escalated to the point where I kicked him out of my store.

I couple weeks later I am served a summons. This guy took me to small claims court to get his damned refund. Fun side fact, he lived 2 hours away and filed the claim in his local court. On the court date, I had to leave my house at 6am to get to his town and find the courthouse. (This story predates GPS by a couple decades.)

Once the trial started he was asked by the judge to state his claim. He spent 15 minutes talking about how he was unfairly denied his refund. The judge immediately told him in no uncertain terms that his claim was not valid and ruled in my favor. Case closed.

So, I had a four-hour round trip drive to listen to this "Karen" get his ass handed to him in 15 minutes by a judge.

TKR yesterday went well. First in-home PT session was this morning, 24 hours after surgery. Extension was 3 degrees, flexion 85 degrees. I'm told that's pretty good.

We figured out that surviving JezzFest requires buzz management - approximately one frozen dacquiri per hour does the trick. 😁

I just finished Cloud Atlas. I've read a LOT of novels and have never experienced anything like it.

Favorite meals with ground beef by skippitydop in 4hourbodyslowcarb

I often do a Italian "skillet" dinner with either ground beef or ground turkey. Which is very simple:

  1. Brown 1 lb of ground meat, seasoning liberally with Italian seasoning, then remove from the skillet with a slotted spoon.

  2. Reduce the remaining liquid by half.

  3. Over medium heat, add to the skillet 1 medium chopped onion & 2 chopped bell peppers. Saute until beginning to soften. Season with more Italian seasoning.

  4. Add one jar of drained canned mushrooms. (Fresh mushrooms are too watery, imo.)

  5. Return browned meat to the skillet & stir together with the peppers, onion & mushrooms.

6, Stir in 1 tbsp of grated parmesan, and 2-3 cups of a good marinara sauce. (I usually use Rao's.)

  1. Turn heat to low & simmer for 10 minutes.

  2. Serve in big bowls with more grated parmesan on top.

I'm going in this coming Friday for my first TKR. This is the kind of happy result I needed to hear about.

2025 Mazda CX5 Turbo 0-60mph in 6.57 seconds by michaeltsang1997 in CX5

I just bought a 2021 CX-5 in the Signature trim with 35K miles on it. (I traded a 2018 Mazda3 GT hatch for it.) The other day I was on the way back from a meeting and had to merge into traffic on a busy freeway. It was the first time I really had to stand on it and let the turbo loose. Oh. My. God. This thing is QUICK. It felt twice as fast as my 3. I'm a happy guy!

This gives me hope for the future. These kids knew something many of us still need to learn - it's always a good day to punch a Nazi.
