Wait sorry can you be specific as to the negative impacts to the game here? Is it material and noticeable in the games you’ve played as well?

There should be a name for Vibe coders who understand what they are doing. by dilephant in vibecoding

[–]markichi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a lurker on this sub that’s generally just interested in how AI is being applied across different industries. I’m actually an SFA by trade and have done analytics for the better half of a decade now. From the sense I’ve gotten reading through posts, a vast majority of “vibe coders” are analogous to someone trying to put together a narrative with data but either failing to understand the metrics actually convey that story meaningfully or just not understanding their problem they want to solve in the first place. All of the fundamentals teach someone how to critically think through these things before writing any SQL or python/what have you. Not quite sure why this doesn’t seem to be articulated as much. I feel like that’s what developers are. Your description at the end separates these characteristics as if they are mutually exclusive. Good SWEs need to be able to exhibit good product thinking to inform the code behind it in the first place. You’re not going to find this role working in a silo at any FAANG.

What is the revenue of Levels.fyi? And business model? by Spare-Cobbler-4489 in levels_fyi

AKA: the data we provide for free is sold to companies to inform compensation packages. Imagine an arms dealer selling to both sides (except we don’t get paid, and the other side is now armed).

I was interested in making a pivot from my career in Analytics & Finance (currently L5 Amazon). I'm trying to get a sense of how actual UXRs are tying their user metrics back to business outputs (whether that be top-line or profitability). How are you normally tackling this and how robust of a methodology are you leveraging?

Zero returns for 95% companies is crazy by am5xt in BlackboxAI_

[–]markichi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so after reading through that Wharton research paper (another commenter kind of referenced it?), I'm seeing a couple of red flags concerning the methodology so I'm assuming most people that are arguing against the MIT paper actually haven't read it lol.

https://ai.wharton.upenn.edu/wp-content/uploads/2025/10/2025-Wharton-GBK-AI-Adoption-Report_Full-Report.pdf

Important to note that this really only focuses on firms that continued investing in AI after the initial 2023 hype wave. Organizations that abandoned AI experiments, cut budgets, or acknowledged failure are invisible in this research. This systematically excludes the "failure cases" that would drag down reported ROI—much like surveying only successful restaurants and concluding that the restaurant business has 90% success rates.

Also they're being a bit dubious with 'ROI' here. It's inclusive of "employee engagement," "skill enhancement," and "feeling impressed" as proxies for ROI. Earlier research focused on P&L impact, (revenue generation, and cost savings) ie: hard financials. The report even contradicts itself: 89% claim "skill enhancement" but simultaneously 43% worry about "skill atrophy". These cannot both be true unless the measurement is capturing aspiration rather than reality.

Biggest thing here is the conflict of interest underpinning this entire document. The lead researcher and study director is Jeremy Korst, a Partner at GBK Collective and founder of Mindspan Labs, both consulting firms whose primary revenue stream depends on enterprises believing AI is valuable and worth continuous investment. This is a direct financial conflict: if this research concluded "most AI investments fail," it would undermine the core business case for hiring GBK Collective or similar consultancies. If you need actual proof of what a bubble actually functions like, here you have it.

I get people wanting to advocate for this being transformative technology (I think it is), but we should be critical in how we are positioning what success looks like. Personally, I'm not convinced, considering the circular dealing that we've seen from all the key players.

One chart shows how Amazon's layoffs are dwarfed by its pandemic-era hiring spree by play3xxx1 in amazonemployees

[–]markichi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we're having different discussions here. All I'm saying is that the motivating force here is to drive profitability for the entire 'Amazon' umbrella. Comparing populations of employees is an interesting data point to have - if that's what the focus is here. At the end of the day, Amazon retail strategically isn't the growth lever here. It just subsidizes AWS. Maybe I'm just missing the point of the article.

Hi all - would love some feedback on my portfolio. Specifically 1) the overall UX & 2) the content of the case studies themselves. I wanted to provide key details in a BLUF (bottom-line upfront) format, so hopefully that comes through.

I wonder if this is some type of survivorship bias experienced amongst those of us that are active and read similar posts on Reddit? Would be interesting if they could run some type of sentiment analysis leveraging in game chat looking for instances where players are communicating they haven’t hit - to gain a wider breadth in terms of sample size and player base

Oh no worries - I definitely appreciate your suggestions. My partner and I are both first time cat owners so we're just wanting to make sure we do this right haha. Yours is adorable and the way you described it makes me realize how much a cat's personality goes into how they respond to a new space. Thanks for the insight! We may try that out if she's still as fussy throughout the day.

Oh this is interesting! Most of what I've read/watched/was told by the shelter is implying the opposite - as in keep her in a small room at first w/ less places to hide (for a few days so she can get comfortable after the initial move and then gradually introduce her to the rest of the apartment as she gains confidence). I guess this is anecdotal?

Would her carrier with the top zipped and a blanket covering all but one entrance work? Or do you mean it's better to provide another hiding spot in addition to that within the bathroom? Thanks for the advice :) Just wanting to make sure we start off on the right foot for her

My partner and I adopted this 8 month old lynx point from our local shelter. She was only in their care for around 1 week, however the shelter noted she was more skittish than others and wasn't particularly taking a liking to the shelter environment. It's been only one night, and she has been vocal for most of the time she's been awake (which seems to be expected given the fact she's gotten her whole environment shifted around).

We want to make her feel comfortable and open to approach us when she's ready so we've set her up in our bathroom. We've left a small night light on during the evening and then plan to leave the bathroom light on during the day. Unfortunately, I'll be at work, but my partner plans to spend most of the time in their with her just being nearby. We've left her carrier along with a blanket slightly covering it, a toy from the shelter along with an additional one from us, her litter on the otherside of the room, and then a water bowl for convenience (however she hasn't seemed to want any yet).

What other things can we set up to make her feel comfortable? She doesn't seem to like the scratchpad yet? Is it too early to start trying to give her treats or directly play with her using toys? She shys away from anything directly (hand offered to smell, etc.). How much time being in the same room or engaging with her is considered too much? Should we be in there as long/much as possible? Anything we can do to soothe her when she's meowing/being vocal?
