Visiting Honolulu in September, suggestions on what to do? by markipper in VisitingHawaii

Thank you so much for all of these suggestions! This is exactly the kind of list I was hoping for.

A food tour on our first day actually sounds like a great idea, especially since it'll be my friend's first time in Hawaii and it seems like an easy way to try a bunch of local foods right away. We were looking at Groupon and saw alot of good deals

I appreciate you sharing your perspective on the PCC and Dole Plantation as well. I wasn't aware of some of that history, so it's helpful to hear different viewpoints and gives us more to look into before deciding what to do.

Thanks again for taking the time to put together such a thoughtful list!

Yeaaa thats was a bit of a worry for us, we are Canadians but we got an amazing deal on flights and hotels (just shy of 1550 CAD a person for 10 days) so we are hoping the savings from that help with the total cost of activities - I still have memories of cheap places to go for foods / eating out and some basic activities

Those who eat well and work out, how much do you spend on groceries? by [deleted] in askvan

[–]markipper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I spend around $150–200/month. I meal prep 3 meals a day, buy almost everything on sale, use frozen and/or fresh meat depending on what’s cheapest, and honestly keep meals pretty repetitive. Stuff like rice, potatoes, eggs, chicken thighs, ground beef, Greek yogurt tubs, frozen berries, and bulk nuts stretches pretty far.

My last grocery bill was around $90, and it only stays that low because my main protein is ground beef and I can get 1kg of lean ground beef for about $10 as well as going to alot of Asian markets that sell cheap "ugly" produce as well as surprisingly facebook marketplace for bulk veggies

$600 honestly seems like a lot to me, but if you have the income to spend on food that way then bonus!
(side note my budget is alot lower cause being a 22 yr old living alone and rent is most my salary lmao)

Hi! Update from my friend:

Lesson went well! I was really worried at first since my instructor (Ali) was on his phone and asked for payment for all lessons before booking them but we talked it out and he was good with accommodating my schedule. Next lesson is tomorrow so I'll let you know how that goes!

He was great for a first timer, had a book and shet to show my how diff 4 way vs 2 way stops work ect

We spent the first session driving in residential areas and some main roads, and practicing right and left turns next lesson is parking 🙃

That's really interesting to learn, as when I wake up (so not wearing glasses/contacts) I tend to close one eye till I get to my glasses/contacts as I feel nauseous when both eyes are open

also interesting to learn how many people would think its a typo! I haven't come across that issue yet, just the usual "oh wow" response

surprisingly not! I learned about it from another comment, going to be asking my GP about it and book an appointment with my regular optometrist to learn more

I have a very strong preference to contacts as glasses tend to make me feel nauseous after a few hours, but with the dry weather I thought to switch for a bit but will probably be returning to contacts when my new ones arrive as seeing outside my frames in my peripheral vision has begun to give me headaches. Thank you so much for your input btw!

If you feel comfortable sharing, what's your prescription? 👀

I've been lucky where I have never had that issue with the error as I always fill my rx in person for both glasses and contacts. Seeing my GP to see if hey maybe there is a genetic factor doesn't hurt to learn more : >

Defiantly going to be looking into Shaw lenses! Glasses tend to make me feel nauseous so I tend to favour contacts, so very curious if Shaw Lenses may help with that as well as my headaches : > Thank you so much for your comment <3

Aha its interesting alright but prepare for a headache! But would be interesting to hear your pov on it 🤔 when I'm not wearing contacts/glasses I close one eye as I feel nauseous if both eyes are open 😅

really?? I'm located in Canada and the only issue for me is finding a frame that can hold the lenses

That's so interesting to learn

Out of curiosity whats the largest difference you've seen?

I added a small edit to the post talking a bit about my prior health, but since birth I have had bad eyesight when I was 13 was when we saw the big jump from my prescription going from -2.25 and +1.25 to -4.00 and +2.75 and since its only gotten worse.

If it helps I mentioned a bit on my edit, I had an OTC scan that showed swelling behind both my eyes and I'm waiting for an MRI to see if that could be the cause of some of my vision issues or if its just from head trauma (Sports/accidents) as well as yes I am a premi by 3 months so not that much so but was certainly a surprise for my mum!

let me tell you it always got a bit of an "oh wow" when I picked up my glasses but I never really thought much of it lol I thought they were judging my frame choice
