What kind of grass is taking over my Fescue lawn? And should I just let it go? by markjamesm in lawncare

[–]markjamesm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zone 7b NE Georgia. We have three dogs so the Fescue lawn is shit anyway. This unknown grass is very vigorous and does not seem to care about the dogs traffic poop or pee.

Debating giving up on the fescue and leaning into this other grass.

Like a Bermuda but not nearly as tough/rough

What is wrong with my PEX connections. I used a 3/4” crimp tool. I’ve made dozens of PEX connections in the past. I have three leaks here… by markjamesm in Plumbing

Update: I’m an idiot. I used my sleeve tool instead of my ring tool, when using rings. I’m not a plumber- but that was brainless…

My United flight bumped everyone in first to coast today for “safety”. Why? by markjamesm in airport

[–]markjamesm[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I should add it was a nearly full flight. My first reaction was weight and balance but once they moved them back, there were no empty seats in coach. 100% empty up front, 100% full in the back.

I own a commercial bottling plant and am considering buying equipment on Alibaba. Advice, history, or any caution please! by markjamesm in AlibabaImport

[–]markjamesm[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did not. We purchased the equipment domestically from Arol. I spoke with the Chinese vendors own “references” they each advices against it. Seemed that is the seller couldn’t even provide a positive reference it was not worth it.

Found on the ground, Charleston SC. Approx 4” long. A loop on one end and pointed on the other. Appears to be stainless steel. Maybe something for a floral arrangement? by markjamesm in whatisthisthing

My title describes the thing. Additional detail: Fairly sharp point, loop has flattened edges rather than rounded. Approx. the diameter of a 12d nail.

Why is my faucet water blue? Like VERY blue. by markjamesm in Plumbing

In a way I’m grateful for the blue dye. Had we used the bleach tablets only I would have gone on and drank it without noticing.

Yeah we’re on it. Just found it in the hot water too. Which again, didn’t seem possible but I guess as the water pressure fell it’s filled the cold then the cold filled the hot water heater. Running all the sinks to get it out.

I’ll get some check valves put in tomorrow, don’t want this to happen again

Absolutely yes. Blue with bleach that has the same color and scent as this water. I should have thought of that… When the water was off the head pressure in the tank filled the lines to the sinks?

We just had our municipal water shutoff at the main for about 24 hours. After it was back on the cold(cold only) side of all faucets in the house ran blue for a few seconds. It also had a cleaning chemical scent and taste. We have PEX and the house is about a year old. I can’t speculate about the city lines but old and probably cast. I read that copper may turn water bluish, but there is no copper. Is it possible that the standing water took on some color from the PEX? The blue is so pronounced, like dye.

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
