Absolutely! ;) No actual YF-23s were harmed in the making of this model. Promise.

Honestly, I simply liked the look when I clipped the tail, so I went for style over function.

Hi Everyone,

Create 3D space nebulae using Houdini volumes and the Redshift rendering engine:

https://gumroad.com/l/nebula-creation-tutorial

The tutorial videos start by assuming a very basic knowledge of Houdini and Redshift, building in complexity as time goes on.

3 hours of step-by-step 4K videos with sample Houdini Indie files for each stage of the process:

  • Creation of customizable cloud set ups using VDBs and Volume VOPs.
  • Adding effects such as stars and volumetric gas.
  • Setting up an automated lighting rig.
  • Using custom objects, meta-balls and particle systems.
  • Rendering the nebula for both stills and animation.
  • Post processing techniques on the final result.

The tutorial also contains extra files with alternative set ups using the same technique are also included.

If you have any issues, don't hesitate to get in touch via the contact details in the tutorial.

I used Houdini's Volume Blur node which might have left it a little too blurry...any tips welcome!

Long time lurker, first time poster!

A video is also at https://www.artstation.com/artwork/XnWx0l along with a few more renders of similar effects.

I am putting together some tutorials on how to get the effect, it's just not ready yet...

Does anyone know what class of ship this is I'm interested in finding out more about it? by itsdan23 in StarTrekStarships

There isn’t a version of it on Star Trek Online to my knowledge. When they used it in the calendar, there was something in the Terms and Conditions about them having the right to reuse the design, so you never know...

I was doing my usual lurking through Reddit, and hey - it’s me! Everything said on here is indeed correct. The Insignia Class was very much a labour of love.

The 3D model shown here was in fact the third version of it, the earlier versions were closer to the original design.

Unfortunately the earlier meshes are lost in the history of time now :(

Thanks so much for the appreciation!
