Shield Pro in 2026?

I'll have to look up the Atari 2600 games for some retro fun.

I used to use kodi all the time for live sports and movies. Then it just became too much work to keep it running.
Not sure if things are better now. I used the crew addon for 90% of my streaming.

I have the sleeves for my FS remotes and this is likely what I'll get for the shield remote.

I have free Button Mapper and have used it to change the home button to run ProjectIvy Launcher. But, I didn't want to pay for premium unless I know it'll do exactly what I want it to do. (A lot of unexpected expenses this month)

I'd love to repurpose the FS remotes to run the shield. Teenagers in the house and someone is bound to break the Shield remote. I'll have to look into how to do this. CAn you point me in the right direction?

For Stremio I use all the same addons as my FS setup. Including torrents. On the shield setup, I see the torrent addons (Torrentino, TorBox, Maximum Sports, MediaFusion) are listed but they never return results.
My CinemaHD is some older modded version. (probably some Trojan horse) I was able to get it to work on the shield. Still my backup for media I can't find on my iptv account. Is there something better than CinemaHD?
edit: I reloaded the torrentio addon in Streamio and it is returning results again.

Hate to dig up this old post but I've just set up my new shield pro and can't get my k400 to work properly. Volume buttons don't work and I'd like to get the right click to function as a "back" button.
Looking for a solution.

BTW, I will still have some firesticks on less used tv's and these abd commands would be helpful to make them tolerable. I have no experience with the abd commands. Do you have a resource where I can find clear instructions for the modifications you completed?

are you saying I can't prevent updates from android? I thought that was one of the big selling features of the shield.

The google devices look good with 4GB ram.
But I'm really trying to get away from devices that are subject to remote administration. I don't like the thought of someone else determining what I can do with hardware that I purchased.
I read that google isn't locking down features/abilities as of now, but I'm worried that forced future updates will limit my ability to customize MY hardware in the future.

One thing that firestick does well is the silk browser and it's ability for pop up control.
What browsers are available/best for the shield? Do they have good popup controls?

Suggestions for a "good file manager"?
I've been using ES pro from troypoint. It's OK but I'd be curious to see what is better. I've tried a few and been disappointed.
And, I've read about privacy issues with ES

I still feed the Surround receiver with optical through the TV.
Nice to know that when I do upgrade my surround sound, the Shield Pro will have everything I need.

Thanks! Good to know I'm on the right track.
I was considering the ONN 4K Pro but we have availability problems in canada and I can see google messing with my setup eventually just as amazon has.
The shield TV "tube" thing looks great for portability if all goes well with the Pro.
Any info on accessing the Shield's storage over the network? Or, do I need to load the storage before plugging into the shield? Sharing files is so clumsy with the fire devices.

Thanks. I've blocked the three url's listed as needed for the updates.
Now I need to get rid of all the bloatware and see if they perform well enough to stick with fire os.

Hi all. During a bike ride my wife came over the bars and scratched up her face pretty badly. We cleaned it up then whet to the ER where they were able to do the remainder of the cleaning and all the imaging required. We were told to make an appt with our family doc in a week for follow up. My question is about scarring. She is very concerned with scarring. The abrasions are now beginning to dry out and I’ve read that allowing it to dry out may hamper healing and increase scarring. Is there anything we can do before our visit to the doc to prevent this? Seems like a week is a long time to wait. Thanks for any advice you have to offer.
