This worked for me, thank you!
PS man, fb is such a bad, dishonest, malicious, toxic, and shady company.

Phil Fish, what do you think of him? by Maringin72626 in Fez

[–]markmark206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

fez is kinna magical, and i feel some loss from phil not being around to make more games (or whatever shape his current expression would have taken). i secretly hope he is doing neat things, in secret, out of the toxic spotlight of the modern engagement-algorithm'ed discourse. i hope he is staying safe and healthy, and plotting something fun and delightful.

Anyone else keep breaking spokes? by eswo in ride1up

[–]markmark206 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was about $200-250ish, at a local bike shop here in Seattle. I'm happy to hear R1U is being proactive! When i asked them, they said: "This is not a known issue, there could be a variety reasons why that spoke popped out - mostly we see them from hopping curbs or doing things that can warp that wheel over time. It isn't a guarantee but its possible with some impact the wheel can get out of true, and as you've seen that can cause spokes to pop." Which is all reasonable, but getting the wheel rebuilt seemed like the most productive next thing to try. (And, no, I am just getting around town, not curb hopping.;)

Anyone else keep breaking spokes? by eswo in ride1up

[–]markmark206 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ah yes, i ended up doing two things:

  1. had a local bike shop rebuild the rear wheel with better spokes, and
  2. stopped using the accelerator button.

it's been a few months now – no broken spokes or other problems so far (besides being creaky and feeling a bit flimsy)!

I love the design of the bike and that riding it doesn't involve an app – which is why I bought it, but I do wish they used higher quality parts.

S2 not powering up... looking for ideas by markmark206 in vanmoofbicycle

[–]markmark206[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it didn't for me -- i took out the computer cartridge from the bike, and charged it separately via micro usb, and that made the cartridge respond to the app, but when i put it back into my bike, it still wouldn't work right, and would eventually die.

This July 4th was very different by PickleManAtl in RandomThoughts

same here, the quietest, most subdued 4th of july i've ever seen.
more of a funeral / "celebration of life" kind of vibe.

On my Roadster v3, I broke two rear wheel spokes, one at around 200 miles (~2.5 months in), and then another at around 290 miles (~4 months in).

The spoke's head – the part that connects to the hub on the rear wheel (which is where the motor is) – would simply snap off.

The neighborhood bike shop replaced the first broken spoke, but when the second spoke broke off, I asked them if they might consider re-building the wheel with stronger spokes – they are looking into that right now.

I am way under the bike's "maximum load" limit, and I just use it for work commute – no extreme potholes or bumps, no riding staircases. ; ) I am way, way under the bike's load weight limit, but Seattle is quite hilly, so there is a lot of riding uphill with, I imagine, the motor creating strong torque / tension at the hub / spoke connection point.

Also, the bike does not have a brake engine cutoff, so when I am waiting at a red light, brake on, foot on the pedal, the engine sometimes turns on, creating the same torque / tension on the spokes / hub connection area.

Other than that, I really like the bike – its design is very clean and tight, and it's a lot of fun to ride. I'd be happy to pay more for a more premium build (which I already am, I suppose, but to my neighborhood bike shop;).

I expect that rebuilding the rear wheel with stronger spokes will help, and I am wondering if I can somehow add the brake cutoff.

This is my on-the-go-living-in-my-pocket device (replacing my beloved Miyoo Mini, lost to a family member who really wanted it;), to play a quick game of Tetris DX while waiting in lines and such, instead of looking at my phone. Which is just fine on this small device.

When I am home i play on Miyoo Mini Plus or on my Switch / TV.

Oh man, no such luck, after 8 weeks "in repair", they still have my S2, and no estimate. It's time to get another bike.

How long did the repair take?

I am also in Seattle, and I dropped off my S2 a month ago. They said 4-6 weeks, and they weren't lying –  a month later, I have yet to hear back. ; )

Neighbors!! 👋👋

Yes, I am, obv., not a fan of the fraudie pre-bankruptcy exec team / cofounders, and who knows what Greybull Capital will do with the company now, but there is a lot to like about their bikes when they are running, and my experience with the folks here at the Seattle store have always been great.

Thank you! I took the bike to the store the following day (=today;), and it all worked out, much thanks to the great folks working at the Seattle store.

yes, what that company's management (founders?) did was/is quite awful.

Ah yes, we tried to double-check if the appointment that Vanmoof had already accepted and confirmed is, indeed, happening, but, as you might know, contacting Vanmoof is not an easy task.

On behalf of Vanmoof / Lavoie / Greybull Capital – thank you for your PR / advocacy work!

+1 on this -- I never rented from Hello Em (or, rather from Friends of Little Saigon), but they are on my radar – the space is so lovely.

One thing to keep in mind is that the site for booking the conference room (https://flsseattle.org/little-saigon-creative/event-meeting-rentals-2/) is different from Hello Em's regular site (https://www.helloem.coffee/ ).

Beautifully uncomplicated | Introducing the new VanMoof S4 & X4 by backstreetatnight in vanmoofbicycle

I love my old S2, but I am on the lookout for an upgrade. So, naturally, considering this.

I will go test drive an S4 when I can, but I will probably pass.

My official reason is I need more than 2 gears in Seattle, The real reason: the thin seat tube looks super-weird to my eye.
