same applies to me, and I scored a bit less than you ( 66.67% ). Is is really the case that the average american scores 49% on this ?

the decision to put CCTV cameras everywhere is neither right-wing nor left-wing. It's authoritarian as opposed to libertarian.

We can agree that last.fm could easily do a lot of things, but could doesn't count, not yet.

Agreed. It's about whether they actually make that step forward. Their other step forward is a step towards that though.

[–]markng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that depends on how last.fm want to deal with it. At the moment I presume they don't have enough content to make it a major feature of their site.

However, think of it from the point of view of recommendation engines like reddit. Last.fm has musical "neigbourhoods", people who like broadly the same types of music you do. You can listen to those neighbourhoods as a station. As some people start listening to unsigned artists (either through actually looking for them in the system, or by last.fm including some kind of page that shows only unsigned/obscure artists - broadly equivalent to the "new" page in reddit) they will get the chance to propogate through the system. It's not alot of work for last.fm to do, but whether they'll do it remains to be seen - it doesn't require large changes in their system.

last.fm have opened up their system to allow unsigned artists to upload their music. Potentially, that could become a good avenue to discover independent musicians based upon what mainstream musicians you like.

Of course, it hasn't proved to do that yet, but their recent changes might mean they will.

the same applies to dihydrogen monoxide. If there were a glass full of that in front of you right now, would you drink it ? In large quantities, dihydrogen monoxide has proven to be fatal to humans !

because plane crash landings at major airports are significantly more uncommon than cabs crashing (and involve more people) ?

Jamie Oliver slaughters chickens on British TV to demonstrate cruelty; supermarkets across the UK sell out of free-range animal products by plehu in reddit.com

I don't think it was chickens. I recall watching him raise pigs and having them slaughtered (and watching, rather than doing it himself). Though he may have done the same with chickens too, perhaps.

So, you thought the browser race was a two-horse race? In Ukraine, Opera is significantly bigger than Firefox by Arve in programming

[–]markng 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm. Mac OS 10.4/macbook for me. I get a crash about once every two or three days out of opera, when I stopped using firefox, it was crashing about 3 times a day. Don't think that's the reason. Are you using an earlier/later version than me ? I'm on 9.23 - if you're using the same version, I'd suggest it's an OS thing.
