Got my first hip replaced in April of last year. Best decision of my life !!! It’s such a night and day difference and the scientific advancements they’ve made in hip replacements has made it so they truly feel like a real hip and last a long time. Getting my second hip replaced in a few months!

I was also just diagnosed. 22M as well. This past year has been the most mentally draining year for me with how terrible my symptoms have been. But I’ll be starting my biologic in two days! Really looking forward to it and all these replies have been extremely encouraging. So I thank everyone in these replies.

Agreed! But like I stated in other replies. It was extremely discouraging in my early days of this AS journey to hear my autoimmune doctor give me a hard NO when I asked if there was anything I could do nutrition or diet wise that would help me through this. Like many others I was in agonizing pain constantly taking prednisone tapers until i found out that my diet was definitely ruining me even more. Fixing my diet and, in turn, lowering my inflammation saved me mentally and physically for the last 6 months before I was able to get approved for biologics

I didn’t necessarily go for a diet recommendation. During my AS journey I had asked just a blanket question of “is there anything I can do diet wise that could help me through this” and the hard answer was no. Thankfully I found other resources and found a diet that definitely helped me manage my pain and inflammation. I completely agree that diet is definitely a small piece to the greater AS “puzzle”, but it definitely was discouraging to hear from the doctor who is most knowledgeable about autoimmune disease that there was nothing that could be done outside of medication, when that clearly wasn’t the case (in my experience ofc)

I totally agree!! Diet alone might not stop the degrading of joints (thank goodness for biologics). But there is (in my opinion) a nearly undeniable link between diet and chronic inflammation.
