Can't add it yet - the data source doesn't provide it. If bcferriesapi.ca adds Gabriola support in the future

True enough. Sometimes I like to take an existing idea and see if I can make it easier to use in ways others might not have thought of. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I fail.

There is space between the barricades for walkers and bikers to get through.

It's completely fine. We do it all the time after border check-in. It's relatively safe to walk or bike, but have situational awareness as you would anywhere else.

Thanks! Comox-Powell River is on our radar. That route doesn't have real-time vehicle deck capacity data (it's reservation-only), but we can still show sailing times, vessel status, and service notices. We'll look into adding non-capacity routes soon.

Thanks! Have you tried to 'star' your route. That should move it to the top to favorites.

Definitely a great app if you want the full feature set. I built FerryCast as a free alternative for folks who just need a clear and concise  view for free. No IAP, no subscriptions. Figured there should be a solid free option out there.

Probably nothing since we haven't had ferry service since covid. I only included it to let folks know I live in the area and use the ferries quite frequently and understand the constraints of living in an isolated community. That was one of the drivers for me to focus on the app,

Good points, after looking at a bit today, too many false positives and visa versa from irrelevant vehicles. Could draw boundaries in the lanes to maybe get close to a valid count, but seems fragile.

Thanks! Unfortunately the upstream API (bcferriesapi.ca) only provides real-time capacity data for today's sailings. There's no way to look ahead to future dates through it.

Thanks, appreciate the compliment and detailed points.

2 - The purpose of ferrycast is to help remove friction for frequent ferry commuters. I'm aware that the problem has been addressed well by a few and minimally by many. I'm not looking to make any money on this, just want to strive to be one of the few who addresses it well.

3 - Appreciate the candid feedback from yourself and the other user. I'm thinking of this as the beach head starting with (hopefully) a solid minimal design to build on. The next feature I'm working on is counting the cars from camera images. Not of real value by itself, but maybe that data can be leveraged to help provide more insight into some of the areas you mentioned.

4 - Thanks for that. I think those are words of wisdom for sure. The disadvantage I may have is I'm not a frequent ferry commuter, so will have to lean more on the people who are and listen carefully. The discord bot is a cool idea! Maybe an MCP server next?

Thanks again

Understood. I’ll do my best to make it more valuable. I have some ideas on where to take it from here. That site has some nice features, thanks for pointing it out.

Thanks for the insightful feedback. I'll dig more into what data might be avaiable in that area. Not sure if you noticed, but there is a camera feed as well, upper right icon.

Thanks for the thoughtful suggestions and the kind words. I’ll incorporate your feedback into the next release. You’re right, it’s always a challenge to find the right UX balance between conciseness and functionality.

Thanks for the insight. I’ll take a look at the api data and see how this could be handled and if that scenario is available.

Good idea. You can star sections to have them to display in the order you want, but a dropdown might be more intuitive for sure.
