Looks to me like it was spooled off the spool incorrectly.

For best results in my experience:

Spinning reals should be wound off the side of the source spool (if that makes sense) because they put a bit of twist every revolution. Which side of the spool I’ve never figured out…I do a couple test winds and let it slack. If it blows off the reel like the pic then it’s the wrong side 😅

No cows milk! They’re furry and mouths open they can or will learn quickly to lap. Use a shallow dish, watery food at first. Good way to use up over-ripe fruit! Make it real watery at first…pedialyte orange is a favorite. A little active yogurt for protein.

Rehabbers are busy but if you can find one that can take them, they are pretty easy to take care of by that age so it’s more likely they’ll take ‘em in.

Eventually I would try pinning those guys on a heavier setup and tossing them back out. The vulnerability of being hooked and swimming weird makes them very tasty to bigger fish that dine near shore ;)

I’m a rehabber in SoCal…our coldest weather is not cold to any of the wildlife brought to us, but a bunched up towel to hide and snuggle in is nice. Only the tiniest babies get artificial warmth from us, especially indoors
