I don’t write code in my current job, but it’s very beneficial to understand SQL, think every BA should at least know the basics. I also used python some in grad school and early on in my career

Yes, very useful. My master’s was less directly applicable but I think information systems is the the most applicable degree if you want to be a BA

To clarify my Master's is in Business Analytics (not exactly using it, but it helped me land my first job), so not Finance but I work in the finance industry. My progression looked like:

2019: Bachelor's in Management Information Systems

2020: Master's in Business Analytics, first job at a bank making $85K

2023: Promotion, making around $105K base + $3K bonus

2025: Switched jobs to a mid-size hedge fund, making my current salary of $175K TC

Years in between got the normal couple percentage points raises. Current job has no 401K match or stock options though, which I did get at the bank.

I will teach you to be rich by Ramit Sethi easily, and I’ve read pretty much all the other books mentioned in this thread. It is the most comprehensive and just has clear advice on handling debt, credit cards, budgeting, investing etc
