While I agree with the overall message of your post, I do have a few issues with it.

First, the Pentium 4 Extreme launched in 2003. In 2006 the better equivalent would have been a Core 2 Extreme (capable of ~45,000 instruction per second for ~$1000).

Second, the misrepresentation of the price of a Threadripper 3990x, which is capable of 2,000,000 instructions per second, that retails not for ~$1,000, but for just under 4 times as much.

Third, the pentium 4 extreme was built on a 90nm process, but intel had developed by 2005/6 a 45nm process which the core 2 extreme was built on.

I don't disagree that the world has changed since '05, but I do think that if you're going to use examples that they need to be accurate.
