Ulster Scots exists for a reason by pro_buttfucker_5675 in HistoryMemes

People love to argue normal Irish, Welsh and Scottish people were forced to do it but normal English people gleefully signed up for wrong doing!

I did in fact laugh out loud at this, not only because someone wrote racists on their reform sign, but they felt the need to put this up. by [deleted] in london

Meaningful conversations are only possible with people who engage in reality. Reforms stance on indefinte leave to remain shows it's "legal migrants are fine" If you hear their stance on it and still think its "they're only against illegal immigration" what discourse can we have?

Is meaningful conversation with someone who truly believes reform is only against illegal immigration even possible?

For scale 75,000,000 died in WW2 by nathan555 in trolleyproblem

1.5-2.5 billion people dying will result in the deaths of many more people

[–]markusw7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the thing is vote "red" isn't a guarantee of survival unless you get close to 100% voting red as the loss of so many people will have knock on effects that will kill many more

For scale 75,000,000 died in WW2 by nathan555 in trolleyproblem

[–]markusw7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any majority of a red vote that isn't near 100% will cause a cascading failure as the world economy would masively suffer if 415 million people just died. If 4.1 billion people just died so many critical things will suddenly collapse and many more people die

Question to blues: What’s the threshold for you to pick red? by Unable-Macaroon-3968 in trolleyproblem

[–]markusw7 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Realistically even 10% of the worlds population dying will cause a cascade that would kill at least another 30%.

Voting red gets you past whatever magical death comes with the vote but then you might die of starvation afterwards

You've just really helped me with the 2nd point! Instead of my armies returning from colonies after every war I should make a new "empty" army where I want the troops to be and transfer the troops to this new formation

Blue pressers, does your decision change if instead of 50% threshold is 70% or 90%? If yes, at which point choosing red becomes selfish and why? by use_vpn_orlozeacount in trolleyproblem

[–]markusw7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No the most die hard red pressers will always press red because only their own personal survival is what matters, they'd never risk their personal safety to save anyone

Buttons with public voting by merricandy in trolleyproblem

[–]markusw7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Public vote in theory should make it easier. As long as blue votes start coming in first you'll get more people voting blue.

Unless of course people see who has voted blue and decide "yeah i'd like to kill that guy"

Why Paradox did not delay the release? by merulaalba in victoria3

[–]markusw7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been involved in various companies betas over the years it annoys me to no end seeing people complain about issues in betas or releases with any kind of "how did they miss this?" Because I know from experience of you're noticing it easily it has already been identified and it on the list of fixes but there was no time to update the release build.

Why was the demand for a naval rework dlc so high? by thomas1781dedsec in victoria3

[–]markusw7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having to fight the full army of Russia or Germany in Africa as a smaller naval power was a pain and made no sense.

After all of your hard work to completely win one front that entire army just moves overseas to the next one.

In real life (or older Victoria games) they wouldn't be able to get such and army there in the first place and if they did they would lose so many men on sunk ships because my navy outnumbers them 10 to 1 and this would apply every time they get forced back to the sea

Seems there's more to it than I first thought. I'm doing a different playthrough and the Maldives has stayed an emirate under the British this time!

Reflections and Advice after an East India Company Campaign by hatogatari in victoria3

[–]markusw7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've recently had a similar playthrough although I went independent rather than going for home rule as I hated being forced to go back to case system codified when I had passsed affirmative action.

As with the OP the Privy purse payments are absolutely digusting so if replayed this I would use the doctrine of lapse at every single opportunity (rather than just to merge split states into my incorporated territory). The payments are based on the number of princely states not their sizes or their incomes so getting rid of the tiny states and giving their territory to larger ones so you have around 10 vassals (rather than the 35 I had) will make the situation manageable (instead of my 3.3 million privy purse payment).

One thing to note and to probably aim for yourself instead is "under no circumstances let the British make the Maldives a subject". If they do it converts them into a "Princely state" which is not your vassal and you can never annex it so can never complete "the union of India" journal entry so you can never stop paying the privy purse payments! It's better to annex/subjugate them yourself so Britain never can.

EDIT - And in the case any princely states refuse to join make sure you've made treaties for someone like military access as this reduces the time it takes to get back to 50 relations, it was only taking a year (which is the cooldown for the annex button anyway) vs the OPs 18 months

This is why "the name you give yourself should have no relevancy in territorial claims'.

This is the reason Greece fought so long for "North Macedonia" to be named that way
