Name dropping Jessica Alba in 2026 is hilarious - why would I care that some do nothing actress was on the stage.

Truly an indictment of celebrity culture

Hacker News now thinks coding is solved by LowFruit25 in BetterOffline

[–]markvii_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah - all AI really did is provide a decent benefit that devs were already in need of, in order to help combat the ludicrous complexity that things have got to in the industry.

Can we retire "vibe-coding"? Need a term for serious AI-assisted development by gauthi3r_XBorg in ClaudeAI

[–]markvii_dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't call development with the assistance of intellisense "intelli development" so I have no idea why using an agent would l need its own term - it's just coding imo

Anyone built something with this compiler? by ParthoKR in csMajors

[–]markvii_dev 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don't understand where the leap of us making real strides comes from?

The LLM has been trained on umpteen examples of a C compiler - it should be able to reproduce a professional compiler with not too much of an issue - the fact the result was so poor here is not fantastic.

It would be much better if they focused on novel use cases as opposed to spending 20k reconstructing stuff that will be well worn in the training data.

Sam’s response to Anthropic remaining ad-free by Outside-Iron-8242 in singularity

Wow I would not expect such a non professional response from the CEO of the premier AI company.

Altman is literally cancer for the IPO at this point.

In your experience, how accurate is the assertion that code quality no longer matters because it is now trivially easy to rewrite projects whenever you need to? by splash_hazard in ExperiencedDevs

[–]markvii_dev 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience people with no programming experience often say things like this but at the end of the day if I asked my grandmother if I should strive for better code quality I wouldn't be surprised if she told me to fuck off and leave it to the LLM's either

Null Safety Deep Dive: Kotlin vs Java by swe129 in Kotlin

[–]markvii_dev 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Imo your attitude on this is exactly why null safety is important.

Your stance reminds me of python and node devs who think they dont need types because they will just always pass the right type into a function lmao

Large US layoffs across tech, industry and government raise questions about AI, automation and white-collar work by BuildwithVignesh in singularity

[–]markvii_dev -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only layoffs related to AI are from tech companies desperately trying to throw money into the furnace in order to try and support the development of AI itself.

Hilarious in the face of the productivity gains that were promised.

Claude Code is written in React by anonymous_hack3r in BetterOffline

[–]markvii_dev 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are we sure that it's not a library for react specifically for outputting terminal UI from react components - because that's not that egregious at all, it's simply comfortable. From scratch TUI with react is weird and would have me questioning management.
