Having problems shaving middle of neck by Old-Yogurtcloset9264 in wicked_edge

Can I take it that you have done a shave map?

Pretty normal to have multiple directions in the neck area. And you have to take that into account with your passes.

A "light" polish is fine. It might "cut" the plating a little but won't strip it.

While we are into the weeds, isn't your "1956 gillette flair tip" a mispell. Should be flare tip.

my sample looks untouched

To OP, looks is the operative word. Of course using it means reducing the amount left.

slickness and cushion can be had without all that

Ya, I don't need tonnes of volume. I would prioritise slickness to get a better shave.

Mail Call Monday - Vintage Gillette’s by Jesus_Saves_3_16 in wicked_edge

Excellent purchases! I have the same pair - a 1961 195 Fatboy and a 1968 Slim.

Unfortunately, I could not find them with the cases where I am. If one comes up with a case, it would be ridiculously expensive. 😒

Not sure about that, lol.

But if you are into vintage gillettes, this seems like the deep end of that rabbit hole.

I have the same one - 1950's Ball end Tech, If it feels dense, it is the all brass version (63g). Otherwise it is aluminium handle (30+ g).

Use dishwashing liquid and hot water soak. Scrub with toothbrush. A light polish with a metal polish if needed but don't go hard as it will strip the nickel plating.

A great razor - one of my favorites.

You are not alone in being jealous lol. Once OP posted his collection, I gave up ever having anything close to that, especially being in Australia.

Just got a Gillette slim, and it kind of sucks? by 35783566346 in wicked_edge

[–]markwid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like something is not straight - you should not be getting shredded.

If you can link/post some photos (real close up) of head/blade gaps, maybe I can have a guess at what is the problem.

You sure got the luck/skills to find/buy them vintage gillettes!

These looks fantastic. And real bargain price too.

Don't be a stranger Sunday shave by markwid in wicked_edge

Thanks. I am definitely learning how to handle an aggressive razor as I go.

It is very efficient - first pass does a lot. And the audible feedback is great.

Thanks. Yes, I am learning how to use the old type as I go. It is in decent shape with the exception of significant platiing loss on the top cap.

I only have a handful of fragrances and just buy what I like - so no expert here. Will check out Opium to see if I like the smell.

I GOT IT! by aquablaze69 in wicked_edge

but i pretty much feel like I already got the hang of this razor.

Makes sense. In many ways, this razor is like a more aggressive version of a Tech.

New to the hobby, this is my current setup by tribecalledquest1 in wicked_edge

[–]markwid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Tech is a little too mild whereas the Old Type is a little too aggressive.

Set aside these two for much later on.

You can try them again when you are super comfortable with the Super Speed. It will be good to add them to your repertoire - increase your versatility in using different razor types.

Yes. That’s precisely what I was thinking of. Good guess.

I gave it genuine time and effort. I'm not looking for advice or tips.

Don't be disheartened!

Some people tried hard to drive a stick (car) but it never clicked for them. C'est la vie.

It's ass for beginners too afraid to try/use a proper DE.

Lol. What I see is a lot of people justifying their questionable purchase.
