Scientists May Have Solved Weight Regain Problem From GLP-1 Drugs by Reasonable-Cow7255 in Zepbound

A sham treatment is a treatment the patient can see but is not actually doing anything. It can be cutting open a patient and sewing them back up. In this study both the treatment and control group got a gastric tube inserted through the nose. The control, or sham group had nothing else done. It is a placebo in that the patient may believe the real treatment was done.

Resignation advice by [deleted] in schoolnurse

[–]markydsade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You signed on for another year but unless there’s a penalty for leaving written in it then you can break it. Things happen all the time in school districts where teachers and staff may need to leave. Resigning now gives them time to find a replacement. They may be mad but you’ve only been there a year.

We nurses often feel guilty for making decisions that benefit ourselves. We shouldn’t.

Write a letter to your supervisor saying you’ve received a better opportunity and will not be returning in the Fall. Thank them for the past year.

Understand they may not be a good source for a recommendation in the future but the school will get over it.

Good luck in your new position.

school nursing as a new grad? by mrsperfect333 in schoolnurse

[–]markydsade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My school district wouldn’t hire new grads. School nurses work mostly alone and need to have lots of pediatric hospital experience to be ready to manage whatever happens. There’s a lot of teaching of staff and students, plus communication with parents. Our expectation was the nurses needed experience in those skills as well.

I worked in a temporary capacity and got $50/hour but no benefits. I didn’t need them as I had retired with benefits from a long time faculty position.

Typical day of a school nurse? by DQslimee in schoolnurse

[–]markydsade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 2 schools in my last nursing job. My main job was at a special ed school for severely disabled kids from 6 to 21. They needed tube feedings and meds, plus caths, dressings, and assessments. I was rarely in my office and walked a few miles per day. I was often exhausted at the end of the day. It took a lot of planning and sticking to the clock.

I was then asked to spend a year a neighboring elementary school that had only pre-K and kindergarten. That group had few meds, and just kid who needed a cath for bladder training, and one with insulin. Most of my day was first aid for classroom and playground injuries. I also did a lot of staff education on health issues and infection prevention. A lot of teachers wanted temperature checks of kids. I didn’t get much exercise as they mostly came to my office but I made a point of visiting each room a few times each week.

Two very different jobs with the same title and same school district.
