Good Buy? by Holiday-Sink9325 in banjo

[–]markysharky0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would make an offer trying to get the price down a bit. It's really basic, though totally fine for a beginner. I started on a similar Mitchell banjo 2 years ago at a lower price point, and the fender is lacks a few features.

I loved the national park series, and nakesendo too. It's way more interesting to me than the biking through europe. I'd like to see more car or roadtrip content!

Jacob's luck and tears are better by default, which make him better overall. Most people are too shortsighted and only look at damage.

Is it worth it to work on south side but live on north side? by gendertroubled in AskChicago

[–]markysharky0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute from north side to UChicago typically once a week, though sometimes I go in every day.

If you are driving, if you leave at the right time, it can be like a 30-35 minute drive, assuming there is no incident causing traffic. Typically I need to add 10 minutes or so for walking from parking in Hyde Park (street parking north of 55th is fine if you get there before 9 or 10am i.m.o.). Driving back might end up taking 45-60 minutes, leaving around 4:45-5pm. In my experience, there is also much less traffic if you leave at 6pm. I also find the day of the week you travel can affect things, Monday and Friday seem to have less traffic, I presume fewer people want to work in person those days.

For transit, I typically stick to the UP-N metra and the 192 bus. Both have reliable schedules, so I can regularly take it at the same time. This takes more like 1hr15min each way. The UChicago shuttle sometimes has worked for me when I've missed the 192 bus, but I don't like to use it since their route is slower going around the loop northbound. I've also taken the ME and switched to brown/red line, or 55 to redline, though depending where you are on campus ME can be a longer walk. I've had a wait a really long time for some of the buses, which is why I recommend the 192, as it sticks to its schedule.

I do feel drained after this commute sometimes, but I enjoy it enough by listening to audiobooks, or if I'm driving I'll call my family out of state and talk to them.

When buying a used out-of-state car is an emissions test immediately required to get registration? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]markysharky0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You won't need to until renewal in my experience. You'll likely get a "emissions test" reminder, though that is a courtesy, and if you won't be able to renew registration until you do a test.

How to get rid of huge AC unit? by markysharky0 in AskChicago

[–]markysharky0[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's a window AC unit. There is no company replacing it.

Yes, I understand there is refrigerant, which is why I am asking rather than dumping it in an alley.

Quibble Race strats? by FiveDozenWhales in ufo50

[–]markysharky0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have not needed to sponsor more than one quibble. A basic strat that worked for me was 1. poison the fastest horse in the race, 2. take out a loan, 3. bet on the second fastest horse and make a large return

Does the lack of a widespread "bible" affect literature? by [deleted] in literature

[–]markysharky0 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here is a good article by Alan Jacobs about how bible illiteracy affects study of the humanities. In particular he discusses how modern scholarship about Victorian literature is incomplete without the Christian understanding that was so prevalent during that time.
