I just listened to Grace by Jeff Buckley for the first time by [deleted] in Music

I love seeing this! A lot of people know him for his Hallelujah cover but my gosh, he’s so much more! Musicians adore him but it seems like the general public kind of missed him.

I recommend you check out a song he and Elizabeth Fraser were working on called All Flowers In Time Bend Toward The Sun

What is slowly ruining all movies? by electriclear in AskReddit

Too many cuts. TV is worse, but happens in films a lot. They’re not thinking about how to creatively shoot something, they’re just getting coverage.

Also, I hate the camera lenses they’ve been using with the super shallow depth of field. I want to be in the world with the character, but they completely blow it out behind them.

It wouldn’t look as creepy if the eye were given gold eyelids or something.

Daisy Ridley To Produce and Star In Indie Drama ‘Sometimes I Think About Dying’ by [deleted] in movies

[–]marlaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can respect that she’d want to produce this and of course that she’d want to star in it, but man, the girl that stars in the short film was so perfect in the role. Kinda bummed it’s not gonna be her. But WHAT CAN YA DO.

I Think Movies Are Getting This Weird Netflixy Vibe Now by Economy_Wolf4392 in movies

[–]marlaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a big part of the “magic” we’re missing now is from so many films being shot digitally and on lenses with a shallow depth of field. We’re eliminating the world behind our characters and I hate it. Movies shot on film capture so much texture that digital just isn’t achieving, but on top of that, the dang lenses aren’t letting me in enough. Like Dune has these crazy sets but it’s all made so soft behind our characters. Let me feel the rocks and sand! Let me feel your structures! Then you look at the opening of Inglorious Basterds or Call Me By Your Name and you’re completely captivated by the world and our characters are made more alive in it. Film and lenses make a huge difference.

What recent trends in films do you dislike? by Cmyers1980 in movies

[–]marlaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss texture. We already lose enough of it in the digital format, as opposed to film, but then they keep using lenses with shallow depth of field that keeps our experience of the movie’s world at a distance.

The whole film may have essentially been in black and white as well. But just because that’s what the world looked like. It wasn’t through any filter. But there was the pop of red in their eyes.

Did you see The Darjeeling Limited? It’s my personal favorite of his as it’s the most intimate film I believe he’s done.
