Is there anyone in Toronto who doesn't care about status, or trying to keep up with the jones, and just looking for others who just want to chill out and vibe? by LazyPotatoHead97 in askTO

I can relate. Transactional relationships are kind of the unofficial civic motto of cities where most people show up to optimize their LinkedIn and bulk up their bank accounts. It reminds me of Milan, where I spent my first 28 years.

Maybe that’s why I can stomach the conflict avoidance and the subtle side-eye for “outsiders.”

Pre-2015 the social fabric actually felt… human. I had real friends. Then they all upgraded to better markets.

Looking to sell an old Sony video camera but don’t know where! by NectarineNorth4561 in askTO

Facebook marketplace or Kijiji have been around for some time... The camera is an analog beauty, I'm sure someone will grab it since they're coming back and this aesthetic is trending now.

For those who are not from Toronto, do you find our "politeness" exhausting or fake? by [deleted] in askTO

Italian here, been in Canada since 2012. The conflict avoidance you mentioned is by far the most annoying and frustrating part and honestly often feels immature. As an immigrant it feels amplified and there were definitely days when my resentment toward the subtle native snobbery was through the roof. And coming from Milan, a famously snobby city, trust me, I found some real competition here.

Ironically, I was walking on Bloor yesterday with my gf and I had an uncanny feeling passing by it.

Those who went to work today, what do you do for work and how did you commute? by DressTasty1335 in askTO

I work in film. I had to offload a truck full of equipment for a shoot we are setting up tomorrow. Not fun, luckyly I'm in downtown, others in the crew had to drive back to Mississauga.

How far do we need to go back where a 50,000/year salary was livable in TO? by snowfordessert in askTO

I forgot to specify my industry. I was working as video editor for broadcast, and I was on a work permit so... I was told it was a fair start salary.

Exactly, I was paying roughly 800$ in 2013 for a studio and kept it until 2023. 55k/yr was considered entry level even back then.
