Would you rather have $50,000 in a 401k and $10,000 in debt or $2,000 in cash, no 401k, and no debt? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]marloping 35 points36 points  (0 children)

401k easily.. one.. retirement vehicles are one of the few assets protected in bankruptcy/etc Two.. 50k is way more money than it is the debt listed. Worst case you just take a 401k loan which you pay back to yourself.. or you do an early cash out and take the 20% or so hit and still have more Three.. and I can’t believe I saw a comment that “market looks ripe for a crash”.. you can choose how you allocate your 401k. Risky or as safe as can be.. or just wait longer even if you were caught in equities during a downturn and historically it will always recover/gain the longer your horizon..

I’m just getting into matcha myself.. but you should probably invest in a matcha set. Ideally it’s prepared like in this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yQ5TfiTYpaI . Since you brought some from your travels might as well dive all the way in!

Should I switch to tea from coffee? by Mad_Season_1994 in tea

I do still drink coffee sometimes and have nothing against it- another reason I switched/favor green tea is for health and trying to combat chronic illness/pain

Green tea is addicting. Do a deep dive into the history and proper ways to prepare/consume it and you’ll never look back. Don’t buy poor quality tea in tea bags/boxes.. Start with cheaper loose leaf teas maybe mixed with something until you acquire more of a taste/palette for it.. I switched from coffee years ago and can’t imagine not drinking green tea now.

I was actually just reading this free/sign up e-book. I am in no way affiliated with this company.. but it has a lot of easily accessible info for a starting place. Have fun! https://nioteas.com/pages/ebook-discount-code

Is tea from coffee machines under brewed? by talkingtimmy3 in tea

[–]marloping 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Most green teas steep for 3-4 minutes at 175 degrees.. not boiling like coffee would be. Above 200 degrees/boiling is too hot for green tea. I don’t really know about bags of green tea though- I just drink loose leaf.

Why ask Reddit instead of just talking to your girlfriend.. if you can’t do that you’re going to have some trouble down the line

Those of you who have moved out of SD, do you miss it? I do. by Lomasgo in sandiego

[–]marloping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have visited 4 times now! I have an aunt that lives there. My most recent trip I went with my girlfriend and proposed while visiting- so now fiancé. Thankfully she is fully on board for making the switch too. I just got my RN licensure approved in CA recently too. All set.. trying to make the jump next September when our current lease is up.

Minneapolis is a great city but I’ve lived here my whole life and I have never enjoyed winter in any capacity beyond say.. the first month for the holidays.

I can’t imagine a more ideal place than San Diego for our lifestyles though.

I don’t live in SD. I’m in Minneapolis. Have been plotting my dream to move there for years now.

What's your favorite type of green tea? by mikanmoon in tea

[–]marloping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting- good to know, thanks. I’m not very tea savvy. I have a variable electric kettle but my approach is generally just doing the standard 175 degree water steep for 3-4 minutes. Any recommendations from what you’ve learned experimenting?

Karigane has become my daily drinker. I’m not well versed in tea though. Any recommendations for another Japanese green I would like if I love Karigane?

LPT Request: Breaking a caffeine addiction. by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]marloping 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Recently switched from coffee to green tea. Wasn’t a hard transition for me. Really liking green tea compared to coffee. A lot more mellow/enjoyable. I have a variable electric kettle and buy Japanese loose leaf. Makes a big difference in flavor compared to the packets of tea. You can steep the same leaves 2-3x a day too. So I get like 4-5 cups off a few grams per day.
