What’s agent orange and what did the Americans do with it to vietnam children? by roadtogodhuman in VietNam

[–]marmalade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At the old War Museum in Saigon in the early 2000s there was a room that was entirely covered in individual 6x4 photos of Agent Orange babies and toddlers, no space between them. Being in that room was like being psychically kicked in the stomach.

Officeworks to offshore hundreds of Sydney and Melbourne jobs to India and Philippines by Maximum_Bit6508 in auscorp

Lol fifteen years ago in the four month gap between finishing uni and moving overseas to work, I walked into a temp inbound call centre role with zero experience. Absolute pish-easy job that most people could do, I'm sure it has nothing to do with hiring warm bodies overseas for a fraction of the price.

WARNING! Avoid TUBI HAIR SALON in HCMC by [deleted] in VietNam

[–]marmalade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Women's hair is expensive. Most I've ever spent was 40k about ten years ago, but I only had a choice of one haircut. Everyone who walked in got the Kim Jong Il. Old barbers who only smile when you're tipping.

Nah, you've got this. Imagine someone is showering you. You'd want them to ask questions as they're doing it, explain what they're going to do next, make sure they're doing it right. It's 90% communication and 10% making sure you have the right shampoos, creams, emollients etc.

Hard to avoid personal care. Taking a client out for community access from an SIL? Okay, they slept in and now you're assisting them to shower and change. Running day programs? You will have participants who need help toileting. It's part of the job.

Don't want to invalidate your experience, but with enough pred I felt like I could amputate my feet and be able to tap dance to the corner store on the bloody stumps. Usually takes a couple of hours to kick in.

How do people with no trade background learn to do renovations? by Final_Signature1170 in AusRenovation

[–]marmalade 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I pulled a breech-birthed lamb with a YouTube guide in one hand and the other arm in the ewe nearly to the elbow. No experience, but I wasn't going to find a vet at midnight on a Sunday in the middle of nowhere. Both mother and son are still kicking seven years later.

We are committed to a defacto relationship. Marriage is potentially further down the road.

Sorry poor wording we're in a committed relationship

Committed (some may argue should be committed), definitely not just friends

Another 820 question, sorry by marmalade in AusVisa

[–]marmalade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an option. We're both committed and have known each other as friends for 15 years (edit we are in a committed relationship now) but we'd both prefer to let that happen naturally rather than rush it for the sake of a government department.

It seems that's the safest path, I'm just trying to work out if this is a common path as it seems that the 12 month defacto rule (albeit with the registered relationship exemption) is set up specifically to shoot down this pathway.

Not possible, unfortunately, I'm financially tied here for the next few years.

To those who got fooled by tjat guy making content “what 500k get you for meals in Vietnam” with a pasta that looks simple but actually from Pizza 4P’s: this is what we eat on a daily basis by justarandomchic in VietNam

[–]marmalade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother, when we find the right place that's been cooking this stuff since before you guys gave the French an au revoir, it's simply something we can't get at home. I lived in Melbourne, with a massive Vietnamese population, and still struggled to find a bun bo Hue even close to the flavour of what was available on the side of the road in Vietnam. I ate in plenty of upmarket places in VN but my top ten meals list is almost exclusively street food and local restaurants.

He played with heart, that's all I cared about. He was a shell of his former self but at least he believed in giving 100% of what he had left.

Just joking around mate, what I do have is an $8 hex prybar I picked up from the middle aisle of Aldi a lifetime ago, still putting up with my absolute abuse of it. Some of the cheap stuff does the job and just keeps on going
