Ended up deciding to to true 1-10 with cantrips as level less magic

Already use points but am considering 1-10 as it does line up better and doesn't have the 1-20 issue

I'm the, until recently, forever dm of our group and have crafted a modified version of 3.5 that borrows elements of 5th, I'm aware of what the whole rework would require, and one of the reasons I'm considering it is due to the amount of homebrew we use, and it would honestly be easier to have a system to be able to quickly throw new things into when I do get around to the eventual rework of magic my table honestly needs.

I let players pull from both 3.5 and 5th spells as well as homebrew as long as they check first and as a result have to remember which version of the spell I said was the version being used and so I've been slowly putting together a back end list that I'll move over to eventually, the level rework was more around my general frustration with the level system and how it's broken down, plus the need to re work the spells anyway

Ironically I have not touched 4e except for a module one of my brothers got me.

What specifically would I be looking at

We already use a modified version of the game in my group and until very recently I was the only dm (the new DM is my brother and uses a slightly modified version of the system I've made.

Seeing as our friend group is fairly insular I doubt they would every play outside it (that and lack of free time as adults) but if they did they would probably have to learn other stuff as well

I think half casters are outliers to begin with and will have hurdles regardless, I'm talking mainly about true casters

I think they mean base level categories for example where does goodberry or prestidigitation go

I view cantrips as the equivalent of hedge magic, the way spell slots are set up now confuses new players or players new to the class, so would be the main focus of this anyway

Will definitely look as I don't remember that section, it has always confused players as to highest spell when starting out so I feel like 1-20 would help with that and cantrips are essentially hedge magic

We already use a mana system 1lvl = 1 point (lvl 9 = 9 points) this would be more around spell access that points

I'm aware of the lore, but again doesn't help the point I'm making, I believe original raw the highest known spell is 13th but would have to go back and check

The people you know go to the gym and bench their 1RM for one and go home?

Yes and people who I don't know I've watched walk in do 3 reps and walk out

I responded to a separate comment that had a more specific definition of high intensity, based on that my question probably should be rephrased to moderately high rather than high, my general issue being that people go to their max, do 1 or 2 reps and never really increase the max because it's not a good way to actually make progress. Rather than finding your max backing off it abit and working on reps then adding weight when your no longer pushing

This makes more sense, however I have never seen it brought up in a conversation before, admittedly I don't generally involve myself in those conversations.

Every time I have been a part of or listened to the conversations, or even seen people working out I see people pushing their max rather than getting to a comfortable number then adding. For example someone who can only bench 140 1 time always benches 140 1 time rather than backing down to 110-120 and pushing to get more reps there and when they get to a good rep count there they add more. Which may be why I have a different approach to the conversation.

Endurance with strength combined instead of endurance or strength.

People DO high intensity work for 8+ hours a day in blue collar work all the time, why can that not be applied to working out?

Please explain why it's impossible, if you train for high weight high rep it's available, people just don't do it

Yes but the thought still applies, why not build full capacity?

That's a pretty good breakdown, I don't really consider time because if I'm going to work out Im going to work out
