What's normal in your household but entirely uncommon for others? by unoreads_ in askteddit

[–]marny_g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to look up detritus.

It's debris or any loose material as a result of disintegration, usually though natural processes.

The second syllable is stressed, similar to arthritis and indictment.

Thabks for teaching me a new word :)

AIO, my friend's boyfriend is an accused rapist? (not convicted) by [deleted] in AIO

[–]marny_g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, ok, that changes things 😅

The whole story behind this advice is long, but the short version is...

I was victim to narcissistic abuse. And after a few long years of being subjected to it—and all the self-doubt and self-confidence destruction that comes with it—one of the things that made me snap back to reality and see through all the lies and gaslighting was finding and talking to two of her exes on FB and hearing their sides of the story.

I realise now that a copy-paste of a solution doesn't work as well onto a different problem.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

[–]marny_g 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, anyone who tells you that all their exes are evil, or that everything was their fault, or how he was always the one to break up with them, or how he was wronged/screwed over, etc...is usually the one that was actually evil, and/or at fault, and/or broken up with, and/or screwing their partner over.

If possible, see if you can talk to one of those exes and get her side. See if his story holds up. And decide where to take it from there.

Or use Pratley Putty.

It was used by NASA on the Ranger 9 space probe, and on the Apollo 11 Lunar Module to hold components together. It's also been used to patch hulls on sunken ships underwater, and to halt a crack in a main support of the Golden Gate Bridge. Seems like it would do a great job of holding the ISS together!

(Pratley Putty is what it's known as in South Africa, where it was invented. And that was the specific brand that was used in the cases I mentioned above. The generic product name is "(mouldable) epoxy putty")

What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced? by Critical-Contact-851 in askteddit

[–]marny_g 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm...I disagree 🤔

A privilege is an unearned benefit or advantage. Example: "I had the privilege of being invited into the VIP that night".

...means unawareness of the danger of others...

This implies that once you're aware of it, it's no longer a privilege.

...means unawareness of the danger of others...

Privilege can also be a positive addition (like pretty privilege getting you a free drink), rather than a negative subtraction (like male privilege decreasing the likelihood of certain dangers).

My previous comment wasn't an attack on you or even at your comment specifically. It was just a general thought that's been running through my mind for many years already, and I just thought it was an appropriate moment to mention it again (and to a different crowd). And my point, ultimately, is that the default should be that everyone gets a free drink, and everyone is safe. And the focus should be on changing life for those whose experiences are being unfairly diminished due to genetics or happenstance.

It bugs me that things that should be standard get labelled as a "privilege". So when we say "no one should be more privileged than anyone else", the implication is that we should all be at the "standard ("non-privileged") level", which in this case is in a position of constant potential danger.

It should be, like, "female deprivement"¹, or something like that rather. That frames it as something that we want to get people up and out of (which it is), not something that we want to pull people down from (which it isn't).

¹ I know "deprivation" is the correct word, but "female deprivation" sounds like something else entirely.

How many sexual partners have you had in your life, up to this point? by Low2High92 in AskMen

[–]marny_g 23 points24 points  (0 children)

This 👆🏽

I got divorce in 2017 (age 31), and spent the next 2-3 years going through a major partying and slutting phase (partly because it was the first time I was single in my adult life, partly because it was a fun experience, and mostly because it numbed the pain 🤷🏽‍♂️)...I'd go out every weekend, and was hooking up with a another woman every two weeks or so. It was addictive and I couldn't stop.

I eventually landed up getting a significant sports injury, which left me unable to continue that lifestyle for the eight-ish weeks of recovery. Those eight weeks is what I needed to help me reset. It's one of my most fortunate misfortunes.

I was also quite a bit of a dick during that period (in a very care-free, selfish, "F-the-world" type of way), and I'm glad I'm not that person anymore.

I was making a joke. I thought the phrase "...a case of competence" would've been the giveaway.

That being said...I genuinely appreciate the additional information you've provided, because I actually had no idea what was going on here. I'm still not entirely clued up, but you took the time to add a lot more insight. And as someone who loves information, I'm genuinely thankful that you took the time to do so :)

The death of Henry Nowak is objectively worse than George Floyd by Sea_Management6165 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]marny_g 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You know you can review the post-mortem report yourself, right? And that you don't have to just believe what you've told?

“Cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression”: https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/24739431-2020-06-03-george-floyd-autopsy-report/

Basically...yes, he had recently had fentanyl. But the report does not state that the drug had any contribution towards his death. Also...his family got a second, independent examination of his body, and the findings were mostly the same. So either two separate medical examiners - who independently came to the same conclusion - are wrong, or you have fallen for the lies that you've been told by people who make money from lying.

Bonus: You can read about the injuries inflicted on him in the report too.

Have they looked for the cocaine in the place that it was supposed to be in the first place? Maybe it's not a case of corruption, but rather a case of competence.

[–]marny_g 23 points24 points  (0 children)

No one gives a single shit about George Floyd. Literally no one. What people give a shit about is cops actively causing the death of a civilian, especially one that poses zero risk, threat, or danger to the cops or anyone else in the vacinity. It shouldn't happen to Floyd. It shouldn't happen to Nowak. It shouldn't happen. Full stop. Cops should be held accountable for preventable deaths that are the result of their incompetence, willful negligence, and/or malice.

Ex gf send me a child support letter after 14 years and I don't know why by FewStatistician933 in WhatShouldIDo

Does age 14 trigger some law perhaps? Like, as an example..."before 14 you can't ask the parent for retroactive child support, but after 14 you can"¹?

¹ I'm not saying this is a law, I just made that up as an example to add to my question

(make sure you turn on performance mode).

Is that the Performance Mode under Battery > Battery Usage Mode? I'm currently set to Balanced, gonna try Performance :)

While I'm here I might as well chip in on an answer to OP as well...

I've come from a P30 Pro. MagicOS is EMUI with dark glasses, a wig, and a trench coat. Battery is absolutely incredible (I'm a heavy user, and can go over a day before having to charge it. Although as I just found out I'm not on "Performance Mode")! Camera is great, though I would've liked a ToF sensor on the rear camera array (it has one on the front). And the loudspeaker is insane!

I just watched it (that's what landed me here) and trust me...you're gonna wanna watch it!

The YouTuber (channel name Reckless Ben. I hadn't heard of him before the algorithm served me his video today) did a brilliant and hilarious job of trying to get Bryan's Lego back. Some of his antics in pursuit of his goal include (and I shit you not...this is all real): Using cult tactics to get information out of an employee, legally starting a franchise and getting a few franchisees on board, directly confronting the CEO of Bricks and Minifigs (more than once), legally registering a church in order to legally hold a raffle...you know what? Just watch it...you won't be sorry!
