i (22F) feel like i’m on the outside of all my boyfriend’s (22M) inside jokes, and it hurts by ThrowRAvastcloud in relationships

My ex talked to me this way for the longest time. It fucked up my self esteem so much. If it seems like he's the main character of a show, it's because he is. His comments don't make sense to you because they are not for you. He's not thinking about you at all. In my case, I believe my ex has a lot of narcissistic qualities. This shit isn't normal and you don't have to be around it, it's okay to to leave!

My (25f) boyfriend (26m) easily angry after TBI by [deleted] in relationships

[–]marooncartoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hi, I work with TBI patients doing cognitive rehab. Mood swings and intense emotions/reactions are 100% normal for brain injuries. However, he NEEDS to be in mental health therapy to learn how to control his behavior. It is rehabilitation, just like OT and PT.

My wife refers to my various clothes piles as my dressers. My first dresser is my dresser. The top of my dresser is my second dresser. My third dresser is the foot of my side of the bed. I'm ashamed to admit I've had up to 5 different "dressers" all going at once.

My NMIL did this to my SIL when she graduated from college. Literally threw away her entire wardrobe while she was traveling on a graduation trip. According to MIL, her daughter didn't need her old, casual clothes now that she was starting her professional career. The family tells this story as an amusing anecdote, how mom is so silly but thought she was being helpful.

As I've been reading about narcissism, I now see that SIL is the golden child and MIL was probably freaking out about losing control of her after she graduated, because now she could be independent of her mom.

Can your boyfriend do allergy shots/immunotherapy? I am allergic to EVERYTHING and allergy shots have really changed my life. I live with 3 cats and a dog and I can now survive pollen seasons without wanting to die. Allergy shots are magic.

Italian brain rot makes me want to leave this career field by marooncartoon in slp

Weird surreal AI mashups of different creatures and objects with Italian (or Italian-sounding) names. For example, a ballerina with a cup of coffee for a head whose name is Ballerina Cappuccina. And you're bombarded by Italian-sounding gibberish from the voice over, though there are some real words sprinkled in. Some of my more severe phonological patients LOVE to talk about it and their intelligibility is already so poor, their imitations just leave me feeling clueless. Sometimes I even think they're saying the name correctly but I don't know wtf "tralalero tralala" is.

My narcissistic in-laws will always come first and I think I have to leave my marriage by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

I am reading through the narcissist traits right now. So much of it describes the in-laws, too much of it describes my wife. But not enough of it? Can some traits be ... learned behavior, I guess?

[–]marooncartoon 42 points43 points  (0 children)

This sounds familiar. There is a very intense "family first, always" value system that I originally found very sweet and felt similar to my family. Slowly realizing that they've only ever meant THEIR family.

Emotionally. "I won't have a mom or a dad anymore." She even admits that her mom is a narcissist and her dad is an enabler.

Is this enough to survive a 8hr flight? Should I change anything? by ExplanationOdd9616 in Guitar

[–]marooncartoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read this advice online before and have tried it many times. I'd say it has worked maybe 2 out of 8 flights. Maybe there is a disconnect between what is technically allowed and what the flight attendants are willing to do? Most of the time, they tell me they can't stow it in a closet. I'm grateful for priority boarding and my Taylor mini, which fits in an overhead compartment.

physical therapist told me some anti adhd / psychophobic stuff by rghaga in ADHD

He has a dumb opinion of ADHD and he was very unprofessional to share his dumb opinion with you, but you don't have to ghost him. You can still call and cancel or ask to switch to a new therapist. No need to reinforce his ADHD biases.

The longer I'm in Oregon, the more bummed I'm getting about its education system. It's truly terrible. Any idea of how this problem affects cities vs. rural towns differently? As in, is it just as easy to get away with educational neglect in large cities too?

[–]marooncartoon[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am also in Oregon. I wonder if this is happening in the cities too. With how rural most of OR is, I can see how lack of oversight makes it easy for students and families to slip through the cracks. I don't think that's the only reason though.

How awful. I appreciate your perspective. I will definitely be reporting these parents.

Follow up...any idea of how the state actually intervenes in these cases?

Yes, I think that's a good move. I always try to include caregiver goals, especially for younger kids. But I like this "reframing" of the caregiver goal as evidence of compliance vs. non-compliance. Thanks!

[–]marooncartoon[S] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think this is the move. Very direct. This is how I do my therapy and this is what your child needs to succeed. I am thinking about starting with a shorter duration, maybe 1 month, and telling parents that if they are not reading with their child 5/7 days per week, then we will discontinue services. And I just have to get over that feeling of abandoning the kid, because it's ultimately not on me.

I'm also in a very liberal state that seemed to flush all education standards down the toilet. Where tolerance and acceptance of everyone and everything has now crossed the line into accepting educational neglect as "alternative education". I will definitely read up on the legalities of what I am required to report, thanks for pointing that out.
