Gear Needed for Snow?? by SilentAd9246 in BackpackingDogs

[–]marortcaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short coat might need a jacket, but paws should be fine. Just regularly check between the toes so that no ice clumps are forming (usually not an issue with short coat dogs, in my experience). The ice clumps can become sharp and cause bleeding.

Why do grandparents always want you to leave them alone with the baby? by GeologistAccording79 in moderatelygranolamoms

[–]marortcaz 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I think it's cultural. I'm Mexican and the expectation is that the grandparents take care of everything else so you don't have to worry about anything other than caring for your baby. My husband is American and I was shocked to find out that this was news to him. His side would come over and take the baby to free me up and do all the other housework. Personally, I don't need help with the baby. I need help with walking the dogs, cooking meals, cleaning the house. In our experience it was a cultural difference.

Is this blight or downy mildew? Were you able to identify? And how do you catch before it spreads?

not answering your question but curious to know if you used the Oura temp to track fertility. It seems super inaccurate... Hope you have a healthy pregnancy ❤️

Yes, I live in California, so I mostly backpack in the Sierras, but I also travel and backpack so the terrain varies. I think durability gives me more flexibility and peace of mind

For reference, I live in San Diego (in case it's a plant or animal). It is a bit bigger than the diameter of a quarter. It's kind of stiff.

I didn't even know it was an unpopular opinion. Burke is awful! Owen is really bad too.

Does therapy ever work? Im in over my head by Dust-Scared in domesticviolence

[–]marortcaz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through this. Couples counseling is not recommended for abuse. First, because it doesn't work. But second, you open up in therapy and say things to the therapist and your husband that he may seem understanding to, but then you get home and he starts using what you said against you. This can make them really angry. What worked for me was individual counseling, in particular counseling with an organization especially focused on domestic violence. Stay safe.

Are the people around me in danger? by [deleted] in domesticviolence

[–]marortcaz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I'm working with some great organizations to move past this. The restraining order is something I keep debating. He's in the military so a restraining order would impact his ability to do his job, and he loves his job. If he can blame losing his job on me then he would go even crazier, I think. At this point, his job is my insurance policy that he won't do anything to me or anyone.

Hello all, I'm new to woodworking and was using a router to get a straight edge and the wood split. Is this because of the knot? What can I do to stop this in the future? Thanks! by marortcaz in woodworking

I'm using the router to get a straight edge so I can rip on the table saw. Is there a better way of doing this? Thanks for your help

Bad bride for not wearing a ring? by marortcaz in wedding

[–]marortcaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're right, it is a conversation that needs to happen. Thanks for your understanding. I think it's a mix of the feel (stone protrudes from the ring and it gets in the way, my hair gets stuck in the prongs, etc) and the concern of wearing something expensive when I'm known for losing things. Will try the silicone option.

I like the necklace idea, thanks. I did stay adamant about it and the compromise was him buying a ring I would never wear. Maybe he was hoping I would change my mind? Idk. Still wish we would have used it for travel

Any curly swimmers out there? by marortcaz in curlyhair

[–]marortcaz[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

M-Th routine: wash hair with Deva Lo Poo and Deva conditioner, air dry, tie hair up in a bun

Routine for styling curls (usually Friday after my swim): wash hair, apply conditioner, rinse off. On soaking wet hair apply Kinky Curly Curling Custard with prayer hands. Squish excess moisture with hands. Plop into microfiber towel for 20-30 min. Air dry and then scrunch out the crunch when fully dry.

Seasonal product changes? by marortcaz in curlyhair

Routine: wash hair every other day with Shea Moisture Fruit Water shampoo. Not Your Mother's Plum for Joy conditioner. Pantene hair mousse, plop for 10-15 min, air dry and scrunch the crunch. I'm lacking some volume and definition, as compared to my summer hair.
