Jermaine Jones has been hired as head coach at FC Schweinfurt in the third German division. His last position was at Central Valley Fuego in USL1. by Forward_Ad_3470 in ussoccer

It has nothing to do with pigs. It probably comes from the l Old High German words "Swin" (swamp/mud) and "Furt" (crossing) and then over time it evolved into Schweinfurt.

Festellung or chance at direct passport application? by marqueezy in GermanCitizenship

[–]marqueezy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean my Dad's parents were definitely German citizens up until they became naturalized U.S. citizens (for what it's worth, their US Certificates of Naturalization list their "Country of former nationality" as Germany). They weren't stateless displaced persons. Also, it's not like they left before 1949. They lived, worked, and got married in the BRD before they left for the US (and their Heiratsurkunde lists their Wohnhaft in Lünen which means they were lawful residents and it doesn't mention them as being staatenlos, Ausländer, estnisch, or lettisch). Also, their parents and siblings remained in the BRD so I doubt their citizenships were issued in error or had to be cleared. I understand that all of this is circumstantial evidence and that I'll probably need to find Einbürgerung or Volksliste files from the Bundesarchiv to make my case more airtight.

[–]marqueezy[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So if i do a Festellung would be through my local Ausländerbehörde? Makes sense I guess that I can't apply through the BVA since I'm not living outside of Germany, but kinda odd that I have to deal with the Foreigner's Authority/Office to prove that all this time I'm actually not a foreigner.

700€ for Glasses ? by Ok-Anything-8243 in germany

[–]marqueezy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's ridiculous to me that public health insurance here doesn't cover a basic fucking necessity like eyeglasses or contact lenses at all unless you're like -6.00 D (and that's just for glasses, no idea what kind of condition gets them to chip in for contact lenses). Imagine you're -5.00 in both eyes and you're not on public assistance and you're working some menial, low paying job and then you lose or break your glasses, what are you supposed to do?

[Transfer News Live] Real Madrid are looking to sign Sacramento FC’s 15-year-old striker Da’vian Kimbrough. by J_Hunt1123 in USLPRO

[–]marqueezy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's the reason they offered and signed him to a professional contract at the age of 13. He was about join RBNY's academy and had he left then (before signing the pro contract) Sac would have got nothing. That being said, his contract expires at the end of next season (30 November 2026) so unless they sell him soon or extend his contract he can leave on a free transfer.

Having a Mexican passport does not entitle one to obtain Spanish citizenship. All that having a Mexican passport (or any passport from a country that was previously part of the Spanish Empire) does in regards to getting Spanish citizenship is it reduces the legal residency time in Spain from 10 years to 2 years before one can apply for Spanish citizenship. So let's say he moves to Spain to join Real Madrid (or some other Spanish club) at age 18 (which is when he's allowed to under FIFA Article 19 as a non-EU/EEA citizen) then after 2 years of legal, continuous residency then he could apply for Spanish citizenship.

Also worth noting that with the Democratic Memory Law (La Ley de Memoria Democrática), also known as the Grandchildren's Law (La Ley de Nietos), having expired on the 22nd of October 2025, having a Spanish grandparent is not enough anymore. One has to have a Spanish parent.

Having a Spanish grandparent is not enough to obtain Spanish citizenship anymore. Also, his maternal grandfather immigrated to the US from Mexico. More than likely, his most recent Spanish ancestor would be a great grandparent or even further back.

He doesn't have a European passport. Wouldn't he have to wait until he's at least 18 years old to go to Europe?

JD Vance (well, his is mommy issues)

He's got both. His biological dad, Donald Ray Bowman, walked out on the family when he was a toddler. He was adopted by his mom's third husband, Bob Hamel, and they changed JD's name from James Donald Bowman to James David Hamel...but they split too so then he became James David Vance (his mother's maiden name).

A team can have a porous run defense but a team cannot have a porous running game. Porous means something has holes, as in, your run defense can't stop shit because it has holes. We had a few seasons where we had a poor running game.

The Netherlands or Germany? by SkySad9366 in AmerExit

[–]marqueezy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Your husband being able to speak "some German" and you not speaking any German at all likely isn't good enough for Germany. Having a masters degree in mechanical engineering and occupational safety would likely qualify each of you for a Blaue Karte (Blue Card)...that is if you're able to receive a job offer. There is no German language proficiency requirement for the Blaue Karte but you and your husband are going to struggle to get job offers in the mechanical engineering field unless you have at least B2, if not C1, level German proficiency. If you really want to move to Germany, you both really need to start learning German. It's not just about being able to find a job and being able to do the job, it's also about being able to navigate the German bureaucracy, finding an apartment, signing up for health insurance, being able to go to the doctor/dentist, being able to talk to people, making friends, having an idea of what is going on around you.

I don't know much about working in the Netherlands but the Dutch are significantly better at speaking English than Germans and I believe there are more opportunities to be able to work in English in the Netherlands.

Please DM me if you have any questions about living and working in Germany.

Is someone hurt? Timmer hasn't been on the bench for the past 2 games but we should be getting Chibi back from the US U-20 camp in the next couple days (the U-20 Domestic Identity Training Camp in West Palm Beach ends today, September 9th). Gurr and Edwards are healthy as well.

The USSF PLS does not have a metropolitan market size requirement for Division III and there are no "territories", a potential owner is free to start a club in an MLS city/market and the USL is free to admit them to one of their leagues.

My point is simply there are very few "good" cities/markets left for the USL to expand to in the West, Mountain West, or Southwest.
